| Mitch's untimely death affects all the former Capesiders in different ways. Dawson attempts to cope by channeling his energy into funeral arrangements and caring for Gale and Lily. Dawson's grief is tainted by his conviction that Mitch died disappointed in his son's decision not to return to USC, and it's only a matter of time before his yough exterior begins to crack. Meanwhile Pacey, Jen and Joey search for ways to help their friend through the toughest time of his life, and Joey's saddened when it seems she's the last person Dawson wants to talk to. Toward the end of the episode, Dawson goes to the store his father went to the night he died. While paying for the milk, the clerk tells Dawson he is sorry for what happened to him and told him what Mitch said to him that night before he died. He tells him that Mitch said that he was very proud of Dawson and that Dawson had a romantic streak a mile long and that Mitch had no clue where it came from. The clerk told Dawson how his fathers face lit up when he spoke about him. When Dawson went back to the car, he cried over his father for the first time. |
