I am a gourd artist originally from the East Coast and currently living in Tennessee. My first influence as an artist was my Mother. She is a wonderful painter and greatly inspired me. I started taking art classes in high school and traveled all around the United States. This shows in the wide range of styles represented in my gourds.
A large influence on my gourds is that I love gardening. Moving to Tennessee in 1993 inspired me to grow gourds, and as you will see in my photo gallery, each gourd has it's own personality and style. All of my work is One Of A Kind (OOAK) and I do not replicate any of my it.
The other influence apparent in my work is my love of antiques. I was an antique dealer at one time and currently operate a shop with my friend Carla here in Tennessee called Pappy's Picket Fence. Pappy's Picket Fences provides a venue for local artists to sell their work. We also provide an outlet for local community memebers to sell antique and vintage items. Carla and I are both interested in promoting the arts in our community. We have a local art club called The Jackson County Art Council of which we are members and great supporters. I am the Vice President of the JCAC and as such I am proud to say we are promoting art exposure in our community.
The JCAC is working in conjuction with The Jackson County Historical Society and The Chamber of Commerce on an Arts and Crafts Festival with a twist. It will be based on different periods in history and is called "Take a walk 'Somewhere In Time' ", on September 29, 2007.
