Well it kinda was. That was until I realised why I was so enchanted by this man...
It's something about the intense eyes, the indecisive smile, the large hands and the slightly unshaven face......Well it's just something about Vincent that makes him so appealing to women.
And, there's also the underlying (but yet the most important) fact that he is truly a magnificent character actor.
Whatever role he plays, he adapts with a madness and charm unlike any other. From the insane Carl Stargher in "The Cell", to the lovesick fisherman in "Mystic Pizza; the filthy and warped Pooh Bear in "The Salton Sea", to the slightly nerdy Whitney in "The 13th Floor" - in every performance he is truly a superb cut-above-the-rest actor.
But the character we have come to know and love him as is Detective Bobby Goren - the holmsean sleuth in "Law and Order: Criminal Intent", with quirky trademark habits. With one tilt of the head, and one bend of the waist, he studies, examines and uncovers the deep, psychological reasons and intent, behind every sinister criminal act.
Goren is a genius - there is no doubt about it - and different to any other cop on TV. Only D'Onofrio, with his charm, acting edge and style could pull of such a role.
It is truly D'Onofrio who is the genius - a character actor like no other.
