After a long wait, the restaurant formerly known as Sora has moved from central Kobe to nearby Rokko (just east of Sannomiya). Vegi Smile is a vegan bar and restaurant.

Yum Jamu
Hours:  Every day from 12pm to 10.30pm
Phone:  (078) 322 0135
Address:  Hirose Buliding. 3F. 3-2-17 Kitanagasa-dori, Chuo-ku

Closest stations are Hanshin Motomachi & Sannomiya and it's located parallel to Tor Road one street across to the west, on the mountain side of the train tracks.

This restaurant bills itself as semi-vegetarian because they use fish and other sea animals in some of their dishes which is disappointing although many of the dishes that do contain animals are also available as vegetarian dishes.  They try to use organic products wherever possible and an explanation about this can be found inside their menu  The menu is based on the food of four countries: India, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.  Unfortunately, a couple of the vegetarian meals do contain egg but there is an English menu with some pictures and the staff can speak a bit of English so you can always ask.

Modernark Pharm
Hours:  Everyday from 11:30am to 11pm. Closes at 10pm on Sunday.
Phone: (078) 391 3060

Located in the same street as Yum Jamu about 20 metres up the street on the same side of the road.

Modernark Pharm isn't a vegan or vegetarian restaurant but they use vegan miso paste, have a daily set lunch which is usually vegan as well as some salads and Mexican dishes that can probably be prepared without cheese if you ask.  Don't bother with the vegan cake though; it's dry and tasteless.  They also have an unusual policy of not allowing you to order just cake, you have to order a drink too.  And if you share a meal with a friend then you must order a drink so that each person has ordered at least one thing.  It's quite a ridiculous policy but the staff don't seem to understand why.
