The Kiamichi Mountains were spelled several
different ways over the years. One spelling here
is given as Kidmishi. Another spelling given was
Kimishi to the flowing river area.

Choctaw Country was part of the lands given to
the Choctaw indians, and was part of the orginial
lands given unto the Five Civilized Tribes known
as Indian Territory.

foot hills of the Mountain area that John Leathers
would live. His son Clarence,  purchase the land some years later from the Five Civilized Tribes.

Paris Texas was just due south of the Choctaw
Nation across the Red River in Lamar, Co Texas.
Many cattle ranch's were scattered on both side's
of the Red River. Many worked the ranch's along
the Red River area on both sides. One Ferry used
to cross over the Red River was just N/E of the Paris Texas area. An X marks its spot along the
Red River which was just south of an old indian
village. His father Frank James would come to the
area in the late 1880s after leaving the Ft. Worth
Texas area.
