| Following General Rachel's opening speech was Mike A. Leathers. Mike spoke about his brother Clifford. His speech was short, but the crowd could sense the emotion in his voice. His speech; Hello. We are the Leathers family. My name is Mike Leathers, this is my brother Charles, my brother Randy, and my sister Judy. We're here on behalf of our brother Clifford Wayne Leathers Jr. He was born January 19, 1948 Wright City Okla. He was reported missing on June 19th and confirmed killed on June 21st, 1967. He was a member of the LRRP's, Troop E, 17th Calavry, and with the 173rd Airborne Division. If he could speak today, I feel he would say, "I wouldn't change a thing, (crowd interupts with applause) for he done it for his God and his Country". General Rachel was sitting behind Mike Leathers as he spoke for the Leathers family. When Mike uttered the words "I wouldn't change a thing", General Rachel and others yelled yes, as they and the crowd, broke out into their applause. (JFL) |
