| The James Farm Home of Frank James & Jesse James |
| This is the "James Farm", that Frank James & Jesse James grew up on. Located in Clay county, Missouri, by 1862 Frank James would leave home during the Civil War. His brother Jesse, only 14 years old, remained at the farm while brother Frank came and went along the borders of the Missouri. While absent from home, union troops came to the farm in search of Frank James. His war time activities provoked many in the surrounding area's. Union troops arrived at the farm in search for Frank, but only found family members. Frank established his reputation by 1862-1863 with results of union troops storming the James Farm. The torture of family members could not be forgotten as Frank James whereabouts remained unknown. Deseperately seeking Frank James, angered union troops tortured his family and rode off leaving his stepfather, Dr. Reuben Samuels, hanging from a tree as all efforts failed in their search. The James farm attacked; by 1875 Pinkerton agents made their appearence onto the James farm property as union troops once did during the civil war. Detectives of the Pinkerton agency were seeking the whereabouts of Frank James and his brother Jesse. The results again would be torture as his mother lost her arm, but this time death came to Frank's little half brother.The war all seemed but over for Frank James, while agents of the Pinkerton agency, like the union troops years earlier, again came up empty when seeking Frank James and his brother Jesse. |
