DREAM OF DREAMS

Awakened from dreamland

in a bed soaking sweat

the horrors of war

can't seem to forget

Roaming visions cover the walls

faces alive in old faded paint

corners invaded, reptiles crawling

not for a second, will my mind go blank

Frightening wind sounds entering this room

raindrops exploding again and again

there is no cover, no place to hide

fighting a battle impossible to win

Clock seconds ticking away my time

louder and louder, unbearable sounds

heart beats faster body burning in fear

 breaths shortened, face buried down

Darkened with no visible light

trapped inside my own self

a never ending dream

only I, no one to help

Please God let me awaken

escaping into today

yesterday's will never be over

tomorrow's another day
