| J.C. is a Rockingham, NC native. His only lengthy stay away from his hometown was during military service which he served in the Navy during the Cuba crisis. He is a retired textile worker. His musical influences came from his parents as both his mother and father were musicians. J.C. began playing the mandolin (the instrument his father played) at about the age of 10. A few years later he began playing the guitar and then the bass guitar which he has been playing for some 20 years. His talents have been employed in the past by local bands such as the Dixie Ramblers early in his life and later by the Country Boys. A devout christian, J.C. is very active in his church where he serves as a deacon as well as choir director. His knowledge of religious music serves him well in Outback, as he handles the vocal duties of many of the gospel numbers as well as providing back-up vocals on most other selections. As bass player, J.C. provides the foundation for the music of Outback. This, along with his mellow vocals, contributes greatly to the sound the band has achieved. On April 21, after a bout with pulmonary fibrosis, JC passed over. He is sorely missed by his friends, family, and band mates. |
