"Tails From The
Closet" returns to OUTART, the gay and lesbian arts festival, for a second
time this year performing at the Individual Artist's of Oklahoma Gallery October
13th and 15th. The play is a collection of comical skits that takes a humorous
look at the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered life.
"Tails from the
Closet" was put together by a group of Oklahoma writers
including Robert Matson, Timothy Stewart, Amy West & David Rudnick.
Among the returning favorites
are the battling sperm, the life-sized fruit
people, a lesbian's coming out party in the southern tradition, a therapy
session for supposed "gay" animated characters and a visit to gay hell
plus
new skits including an absurd look at homosexuals and lesbians in the army, a
campy outing into the woods with the Boy Scouts, a legion of transgendered
superheroes, a rousing game of bouncing bi-sexuals, a senior citizen's comical
jump out of the closet and much more.
The company of actors named THE CLOSET PLAYERS consists of Enoch Elms, Jeri
James, Amy West, Lin Hartgrove, Bert Ballou, Tara Henry, David Rudnick, Rudy
Cooper, Brenda S. Williams and Ben Williams with a special guest appearance on
Friday by one of OKC's best "female" entertainers, Ginger Lamar as
Miss Luscious the hot receptionist into gay hell.
"Our cast is very diverse," says Robert Matson, director of the show,
"from
gay to lesbian to straight. Some have a wide range of theatre experience and
some are still getting their feet wet. We also mix the genders; women playing
men, men playing women, actors playing fruit, sperm, cartoon characters and so
on."
And the skits you may ask?
"Every skit has their own level of entertainment and style, Matson says,
"Southern Way", a skit about a lesbian's coming out party in true
Southern
tradition, has a kind of Neil Simon touch to it, "Toon Therapy" takes
you to
the high-camp extreme as characters from the animated world question their
sexuality with a human therapist and there's a very physical and comical farce
that takes a look at gays and lesbians in the army. So there's all types of
gay-humored comedy to please everyone and all we ask is for people to come
out with an open mind and a large amount of laughter."
"Tails" will perform Friday, October 13th at 8pm and Sunday October
15th at
7pm at the Individual Artists of Oklahoma Gallery located at 1 N. Hudson on
the corner of Sheridan and Hudson across from Stage Center in downtown
Oklahoma City. Tickets are $10 at the door.
