Release Date: Immediate

The Board of Directors of OUTART and Individual Artists of Oklahoma (IAO) announce that this year's art exhibit will be featured at IAO Gallery and will be a juried show from October 6-28. "I am so excited about this," says OUTART board member Mark Maxey. "This represents a major milestone, not only for our festival, but for the participating artists. To have the exhibition in a regionally recognized gallery such as IAO is prestigious for the gay and lesbian community."

Shirley Blaschke, director of IAO says, Richard Ray Whitman and Patrick Riley have agreed to be jurors. This is certainly a coup as they are internationally known artists in their own right." IAO has exhibited many of Oklahoma's up-and-coming artists as well as well-known and established artists.

"We strive to exhibit in Oklahoma City the best and most diverse artists with an emphasis on creativity and quality."

The showing in the Sheridan Street Gallery will run from October 6-28. Gallery hours are 11-4 Tuesday through Friday and 1-4 on Saturday.

Interested artists should submit three pieces of art; any medium, a resume, and artist statement along with three black and white photos by September 20. The show will be juried on September 22.

Artists can email [email protected] or call 405-752-2762 for applications or information.

"Our newly designed and acclaimed web site can be accessed at http://www.outartok.com," Maxey stated.

Last year's festival featured: Randal Bourne, Thomas, Jamie Moomey, Brian Palmer, Joe Dale Tate Nevaquaya, Tim Poindexter, J&J Soulmate, Verigo 2000, and Danny Theisen.

"This year's show will be considerably larger and more enticing for the art collector. It will certainly provide a launching pad to take OUTART into the new millennium," Maxey said. "Our festival is designed to bring attention and awareness to the gay and lesbian artists of Oklahoma. Each year OUTART showcases art, theatre, music, and film for all art enthusiasts. OUTART illustrates the complexity and talent that our community offers."

OUTART's theatre, music and film festival is October 13-16. TALES FROM THE CLOSET II has all the makings to be even funnier than last year's show and OUT ON BROADWAY is shaping up to be a musical delight. Already several of the 10-featured movies are booked and once again represent the diversity in our community.
