Dogfight Possessed's second album and a big improvement from their first, The Seven Churches. Beyond the Gates features raw thrash metal which is mixed with raw vocals of which have been tamed by today's death metal standards. Possessed are musically equal with bands like Venom and Slayer. Unfortunately, they are vocally, too. Possessed are the epidomy of "I wanna kill everyone, Satan is good, Satan is our pal" vocals. In fact, they remind me of Enthroned way too much. But, regardless of this, Possessed, along with Death, are the true founders of real death metal, not this crap that you hear today. |
