German speed metal with mixings of progressive metal and thrash metal.  Andreas Henschel steals the show here with his dynamic vocals.  One minute he is letting out a low growl and the next a high pitched scream, and he does it quite well, actually, without ruining the sound.  Suprisingly, Despair have a clean sound and while the lyrics are kinda stupid at times, they aren't your typical death metal "I wanna kill everyone, Satan is good, Satan is our pal" style that came out in the '90s.  The drumming is also top notch, too.  It's at the right volume, not drowning out the guitars and not drowned out by the guitars.  An excellent album, although the last track is wierd.
Beyond All Reason (Century Media) 1991

1. Beyond Comprehension
2. Deaf and Blind
3. Imported Love
4. The Day of Desparation
5. In the Deep
6. Rage in the Eyes
7. Burnt Out Souls
8. Son of the Wild
9. Crossed in Sorrow

Great speed metal similar to
SanctuaryDepsair aren't a clone, they remain original to their sound.  Herschel gives us another great showing on this album.  Again, Despair maintain a great sound; fast downbeats, fast riffs, and plenty of double bass.  Lots of people want to call this death metal or thrash metal, but they're more speed toned, like early Blind Guardian.  I guess this disc, along with Despair's other releases, is out of print.
