Pick
a well lit area where you can have what you need at hand:
paint- one or two medium browns- water- paper towel
or kleenex- brush and doll
In a pinch your local laundromat will do :B
Make sure the dolls
face is clean- wipe with a damp cloth as needed.
Pick a small small tip brush- open the first color of paint and
dip the brush into it- close the
lid and wipe that paint on the lid.
The dip the brush into the water and thin until it it the lightest
color you want. then wipe your
brush- dip it lightly into the pain mix and aim for the doll,...
Anywhere is fine- but I usually start under the eye close to
the nose- then dab- gently.
You can always practice on the dolls leg- just wipe it
off immediately after with a damp
kleenex. You can vary the size with how hard you push and by
turning the brush a bit in your
hand between dabs.
Freckle one
Sprinkle them around- try to avoid patterns like obvious circles
or heheh squares- yes it has
been done :B If you discover you have a pattern or one that
is too big- you may wipe it off
right away with a damp kleenex. If you hate it later-
you can remove that one that looks
weird with a cotton swab in nail polish remover. Just be careful
of the cheek color and wipe
after with a (water)damp kleenex too.
the right side has the first layer
of lighter colored more watery freckles
The left side has just the one :)
After layer two of slightly darker freckles have been added. I used
a darker brown- but you
can get almost the
same effect by just adding less water to the mix.
Tired kid!
The first time you will think they look
TOO DARK!
TOO BIG!
They probably aren't. It is just such a change! :)
When you hold them up to real freckles they fit right in.
Also if you find that your freckles look a bit water spotty-
believe it or not- so do real
freckles! I was really upset the first time that happened until
I compared them to the girls
freckles and lo and
behold- it actually made them look *more* real :)
Let them dry. Add more later if you want to :)
You may also use a toothpick or a tack to apply the freckles. This
will produce very fine freckles- which may be perfect for the smaller dolls
such as Betsy McCall.
This technique should work on just about any doll :)
HTH!
QZ :)
