I have a picture of an "Uncle Herald and wife" looks like early 1940's. He is in a US Navy Uniform, 1st Class Petty Officer. Aunt Doris says that he was a nephew to T.F. BRYANT but does not recall his parents. Aunt Doris says, "His wife's first name is Vera and she was from Hawaii. I saw him at Aunt Katie Berryman's house in Taft on several occasions.

11 OCT 1947 -- greenlawn memorial park called and notified us that Connie's brother had been killed on his motercycle at Grapevine on Hwy 99 south of bakersfield. We could hardly believe it. Called Auntie (Katie BBRYANT BERRYMAN), Pauline (BRYANT JACKSON), Doris (BRYANT MOREY) in Arizona.

6 APR 1960 -- Connie's brother Paul was born in Taft, California. Paul at age 14 joined the Mercahnt marines with a forged birth certificate. During the war years he sailed to ports all around the world. At age 18 he and a friend from Boston were both killed on a motercycle coming down the Grapevine (Hwy 99) and a perdesterian they hit was also killed."

Paul BRYANT died while driving a motercycle from Las Angeles to Bakersfield with a friend on the back. They hit a pedestrian coming down the last big grade of the "Grapevine" Highway...now I-5 south of Bakersfield. Paul and the pedestrian were killed.

A search of California Death Records shows Paul's birth date as 1924...this is wrong. Paul was the last born and youngest child in the Bryant family, born in Bakersfield, CA, after they arrived from Arkansas in 1929.

A day that was quite lengthy. Connie started having labor pains just after midnight. Around 2:00 am, I went downstairs to get Mrs. Schlund (Landlord and family friend) to take Connie out to the hospital (Cottage Hospital) in Oildale California... (North Bakersfield, CA). Got out to the Oildale hospital around 3:10 am. Nothing was expected until later on, so I came back home with Mrs. Schlund and went to bed and slept until 7:00 am. Called the hospital at 8:30 am and again at 11:30 am, but still nothing. At 12:50 pm the hospital called Mrs. Schlund took me out to Oildale. There at 1:00 pm. An anxious waiting period, when Dr. Wendell Hendricks came out at 1:35 pm to tell me the good news. A 7 pound 3 ounce baby boy, born at 1:02 pm. Naming him Arthur Allen Moore III. Got to spend a few minutes with Connie, but didn't get to see our new son. Came home and called friends, Ellen Hamilton, Irine Webb, Irene Moore, Dorthy Durby. Called Pauline (Connie's sister) in Hanford. Went to see Connie at night, and getting to see our new son at 7:45 pm for the first time. Called my sister, Jeanne, in Oklahoma City, Okla., after I got home from the hospital.
