at Our Lady School
We sent flyers home through the school and through the people after masses at Our Lady's church to let our neighbors know we were avaliable to help them rake their leaves, clean out basements, dust their homes. All we asked was that the person who needed our help would sit and talk with us about themselves. We learned a lot about people that year.
We visit Meadow Green Nursing Home on a regular basis. Sometimes we are there to help them play their J I N G O game and other times we just visit. Each year we put put on a Christmas Show and do the Stations of the Cross for the residents. We have learned a lot about our elderly through this program.
We prepared, cooked and delivered a meal for a 100 people to a shelter in Waltham. We learned that we are very fortunate to have what we do have and that their are people who do not have even a little of what we have and that these people are living right here in some of our neighborhoods. Homeless people live here just as well as other places.
We sponsored a child in the USA through the Christian Children's Fund and sent him letters and gifts. We learned that their are places right here in the USA where people live so poorly that they do not have green grass to play on, or paved roads to ride their bikes on and that there isn't even running water or electricty in their homes.
We write and send gifts to friends and family members of ours who are serving our country through the Army, AirForce, Navy and Marines. We have discussed how brave these men and women are and have learned just how hard and sometimes lonely it can be.
We invite the Tufts Traveling Treasure Trunk to perform for us each year. We learn a little bit about the charity they are performing for and we come up with a way of collecting some money to give a donation to that charity.
