The continued and sometimes extended communications among people who refuse to or who are not aware of how to participate properly in the group does demand a great deal of time and energy.
Sometimes bad postings slip past the moderator. In those cases the error must be corrected.
This has happened in serious issues such as missionaries. A moderator of a Jewish group must be aware of the tell-tale signs of missionary activity. These groups benefit from some behind-the-scenes experts who allow the moderator to lean on them and consult with them.
