Time.
Properly moderated groups demand a great deal of time. Other moderators may be fortunate enough to have a sponsor who pays for their time. In such an ideal situation, the moderator can afford the amount of time that is expended.
Commitment.
No moderator can start a serious group and then allow it to languish. It is necessary to be prepared to support it for a long time to come. Yes, the group can simply be changed to unmoderated status when a poor moderator loses interest, but that would destroy all of the work that was invested in the group until that time.
Furthermore, any good moderator has a moral obligation to his subscribers to continue running the group in the right way.
Future moderators may want to consider the following issues:
If there is no money involved in it, then why do people run these discussion groups?
