Our Jewish Groups
Why do I moderate these groups?
Behind the scenes

"Yesterday I was a dog.
Today I'm a dog.
Tomorrow I'll probably still be a dog.
SIGH.
There's so little room for advancement.

Sometimes you may feel that a group is inactive, even though this is not the case. Our groups sometimes deal with issues behind the scenes when they cannot be publicized to a larger, public audience.

Our large body of subscribers to professional forums can help others with many different issues. That makes these Jewish Groups a focal point for handling many needs, issues, and problems. Some issues are too personal to discuss on the group. There are several ways to handle these issues:

Thus, a group may be quite active without the general subscriber base knowing about it.

Can others help by taking over the routine moderation?

The least amount of moderator time and effort goes towards approving routine messages. The messages that are not approved often require back-and-forth communications with subscribers. Some indignant subscribers may insist that their message is important or worthy of being posted. This may result in lengthy (and hopefully tactful) correspondence with the offended subscriber.

In other cases, it is necessary to deal with troublemakers, missionaries, abusive subscribers or others who are not suited for our groups. It takes a great deal of effort to deal with those who should not be on the groups.

Thus, the success of the moderation may be measured by the amount of material that is not posted to the groups.

What is the ratio between the work behind the scenes and the public activity? Obviously, there is no way to create statistics, but it is clear that most of the postings do not make it to your inbox.

This might be yet another reason why forums may seem to be more quiet than they really are.
