Our Jewish Groups
Guidelines
Not Hebrew

Many people would like to post partial messages or words in Hebrew. This is especially the case in our international Hebrew and Yiddish language groups.

Unfortunately, this cannot be done. There is nothing that we can do, at this stage, until the relevant computer technology develops a bit more, and until that technology is far more widespread than it is today.

Some subscribers want to help. They (and possibly you) devise various ways in which people can see Hebrew text. However, we've been through that topic ad nauseam, and we really don't want to start it again. Although you may be an expert in computers, and although you do see Hebrew on your computer, it won't work on major international groups. Sorry.

Sometimes people like to try experiments. They request to have the group discuss whether they can see Hebrew text after preforming a certain operation. Please do not do that either.

Yes, we realize that you may, on occasion, receive messages with perfect Hebrew text. In other cases it may appear less than perfect.

Furthermore, you may be able to post messages in a special way so that many subscribers will be able to read it in Hebrew.

Neither situation proves anything. There is never any guarantee that everybody on the group will be able to read it on their computers. The people who don't receive those messages will feel frustrated, disappointed, and alienated. Thus, any statistics about the percentages of people who can read it are of no help to those who cannot read it.

That factor is important. We do want to create cohesive groups. We do not want to craete artificial distinctions between those who can and those who cannot read Hebrew.

Note: We do make exceptions to this guideline in some of our Israeli groups in which all of the subscribers are assumed to have full Hebrew on their computers.
