The other pages in this website discuss our series of Jewish and Hebrew groups. This page is different. It explains a little bit about me - the moderator of these groups.
I like to invite thoughtful and interesting people representing different outlooks, philosophies, ideals, backgrounds, professions, or traits to my living room. I don't like to waste my time or to engage in idle chatter. I prefer to sit quietly and to learn from other peoples wisdom.
The corner of that same living room has an Internet computer, from which I run these groups. I see these forums as an exhilarating extension of the smaller parlor discussions, which allow me to continue learning about those issues with the cooperation of people from around the world.
Both my parlor meetings and my Internet groups follow similar guidelines.
I share the best concepts from parlor discussions with my groups, and I share the best worldwide group concepts with my parlor guests.
Not everybody is invited back to my parlor for a second visit. Those who dominate the discussions with irrelevant, unfounded, or antagonistic statements, or who are unpleasant, are not asked to return. My e-mail discussions on the Internet are run in a similar manner.
What does this mean?
Cherished guests in my living room act as they would in any other serious discussion among colleagues who have come together for a serious purpose:
Actually, these basic guidelines are obvious to those who participate actively in any serious discussion (as opposed to a chat!), whether on the Internet or in person.
The resulting atmosphere may represent the main difference between typical chat rooms and our moderated groups.
Chat rooms try to maximize the number of subscribers.
Our groups, on the other hand, are concerned with professional quality. They are intended for serious people who are seeking information and Truth. Our groups are not intended for those who seek ways to kill time or to have fun.
That means that there really isn't much difference between our Jewish groups and my living room.
