Our Jewish Groups
Changing the Rules

There are two concurrent sets of guidelines for changing rules. There are guidelines for each individual group, as well as guidelines for changing the rules in all of our groups. These rules supplement each other, and there is no conflict between them.

These guidelines assure and guarantee fairness among all of the different factions, parties, and individuals in the group. They allow everybody the opportunity to present their case openly and without being overwhelmed by other interests.

Not everybody agrees on every issue raised on the group or on every guideline. Both are open to discussion. Indeed, our discussions would be boring indeed if we would all agree on every detail.

You can changes guidelines and rules for any group or for all the groups in one of the following three ways:

  1. By means of communications sent to the private e-mail addresses of the owner and moderator of the group. In some cases, the moderator will request that the issues be shared with others in public. This leads us to the second option:
  2. If permitted by the moderator, you may recommend changes during the course of the ongoing discussions on the specific group in which the issue arose. Of course, the downside to this option is the fact that we usually prefer to discuss issues, rather than guidelines, on our groups.
  3. You can also discuss the rules in the Jewish Electronic Publishing (JewishEPub) group. That should be a last-resort option, since we like to keep our discussions in the same group.
It may seem strange to join a different group in order to discuss policy issues on your own group. However, Jewish Electronic Publishing is an umbrella group that discussions all general issues with list owners from many groups, and not only our own Jewish Groups. Thus, you can sometimes relate your question to a much larger and more directly concerned audience by posting it to Jewish Electronic Publishing.

Your comments and ideas and suggestions regarding this policy are welcomed. This open debate is precisely what the groups are about. Feel welcome to present your opinion - and possibly to improve the system.
