I keep getting strange messages...

Subscribers frequently tell me about messages that they wish they had not received. The source seems to be one of the following:

The subscriber receiving the mail justifiably feels that s/he should not receive this email.

In some cases, some of the more technically minded subscribers check out the mail header and discover that it apparently did come from a subscriber or from Yahoo or from one of the groups.

It doesn't really matter.

It did not come from these groups.

Our groups to not allow attachments. Each message is moderated in order to limit the messages that go through.

Some viruses send messages based upon an address book. Somebody else may received your name from a third- or fourth-party's address book. They then send it from that third-party location, rather than from their own location. In other cases, they do indeed send it from their own computer, but they use advanced methods to change the header information.

By using this skillful and very very tricky method there is no way to track the source of the email.

You receive email that seems to come from a group, but it comes from someplace else in cyberspace!

Worse yet, this might happen every time that a message comes from one of our groups. That message triggers the automatic sequence from somebody else's address books, which then sends you a message that you don't want.

Again, since the header has been changed, there's no way to verify where it actually came from.

The good news is that you do not have a virus.

The bad news is that you are in good company. You are the victim of a worldwide nuisance that affects a lot of email.

There's not much that can be done about this situation, but most of us are getting to be rather good with our Delete key.

That's probably the only thing that can be done!
