When should you post?

Those of us who make frequent use of the Internet tend to be sloppy in our writing. We use colloquial grammer, undecipherable abbreviations, and poor sentence structure. The idea seems to be to post our message quickly, as if we're too busy to give it any time. Rarely, if ever, do we review the posting to assure that it is complete and that it expresses our message in the best possible way.

However, most messages can be postponed another 60 seconds, if you can just get the necessary patience. During that time, you can look over your document to assure yourself of several things:

Does it say what I want it to say?
Am I attacking or offending anybody?
Am I speaking in a courteous manner?
Can everybody understand what I am writing?
Can my message be misunderstood by anybody in the group?
Will I "look good" after people read my message?
Do I sound intelligent and knowledgeable?
Have I added something to the discussion that was not said before?

True, it may take just a bit longer to post your message this way, but it's worth it. The impact will be much greater, and your overall influence on the group will be enhanced. That's what you want, isn't it?
