(Lobelia)
The coffin opened. From within it rose a beautiful
woman with hair as white as the clouds and eyes that could
hypnotize without use of any magic. She stretched luxuriously
and walked across the castle floor, pausing by the window.
The sun was safely down, night had begun.
She ruled this land known as Transylvania. It was
her domain as Supreme Vampire, a title she had defended
time and again. She in fact ruled over _all_ vampires -
they were her people. The humans in the land were both
their food source and playthings.
And the werewolves, the bane of their existence.
Lobelia knew the vampires still outnumbered the
werewolves in her land, but the spread was decreasing, and
the werewolves had an advantage in being able to go out
in daylight. She had heard a rumour that the Supreme Werewolf
might be on the way and was bringing several packs together
to form an army.
War was coming.
*************************************************
(Leni)
Leni looked out the window, noting that the
sun had just disappeared behind the mountains. The day was
over, and the night had begun.
She knew that the bane of her existence was
rising. The Supreme Vampire, the worst parasite to ever
walk the earth. ALL Vampires were parasites, but this one
was the worst. She was evil and cruel, having no scruples
or cares for any but herself.
Lately, she had come to the conclusion that the
vampires must be wiped out. She was creating many werewolves,
for that was what she was.
She, the Supreme Werewolf, was interviewing humans.
Big humans. Strong humans. Humans were goodness, if possible.
A great strength that she could use for the cause. Destroying
Lobelia.
(Coquelicot)
One of the werewolf cubs from Leni's personal pack,
Coquelicot, came bounding into the room in wolf form. She
ran in three circles around Leni's legs, then tripped over
her own feet and went rolling away, where she landed in human
form.
"I'm dizzy!" she giggled. "Oops, and I was supposed
to tell you something!" She scurried over and lay down on
all fours at Leni's feet, her head bowed. "Maria has brought
a new human, Mistress! One who has to be seen to be believed!"
(Leni)
Leni smiled at the antics of the cub. She wanted
to be safe, and have a lot more cubs in the packs. She didn't
want to fear vampires hurting her wolves anymore.
"Yes, let's go see this human that 'has to be seen to be
believed'," she told the cute cub.
Maria brought her a human, hmm? If Maria vouched for the human,
then Leni would accept the person. Maria was her most reliable wolf.
(Maria)
Maria, the Alpha Female of Leni's personal pack, waited for her
Mistress to arrive. She studied the human woman standing next to her -
she was tall, six-foot-four, and heavily muscled. And yet beautiful.
She would make a fine, powerful wolf.
"It will not be long now, Kanna," she said.
(Kanna)
The redhaired woman looked at Maria, still finding it hard to believe
she was a werewolf. She looked so normal. Well, as normal as any
strikingly gorgeous Russian woman who could shoot a crumb off a fly's
head could be.
She knew about the werewolves and the vampires in Transylvania, and she
wanted to be part of that world. Humans ended up as victims, and Kanna
was no victim. If she was destined for the supernatural life, she at
least wanted to choose her own way - the way that offered her the most
power without sacrificing her soul. She would be a werewolf.
(Leni)
Leni walked in the room, acting like one of the gawking cubs,
instead of the Supreme Werewolf. Maria knew the act, so she was confident
that she wouldn't give it away.
"Wow," she said, gaping up at Kanna. She was a wonderful
candidate, Leni thought to herself. Strong in body and in spirit...
"Are you gonna be a were-wolf?" Leni asked, big blue eyes wide,
looking innocent.
(Kanna)
The human looked down at the youngster and recognized the similar
spirit energy in her as both she and Maria had.
"Yes, I am, if the Supreme Werewolf allows it," she replied. "Whose
cub are you?"
(Maria)
"She is my cub," Maria said, helping to cover Leni's act. "My Leni."
(Leni)
Leni grinned, knowing that it was opposite, in a way. She had
changed Maria herself. Now Maria was the second strongest were-wolf in the
world, and her second in all ways.
Leni decided that she would accept this woman, and would change
her. That was a great honour, as she changed few wolves, herself.
"It's alright, Maria," she straightened a bit, and pulled her
air-of-authority around her like a cloak. "You are?"
(Kanna)
Recognizing the sudden change in attitude and noticing how Maria
stepped back in deference to this girl, Kanna straightened up, folding
her muscular arms. "I am Kirishima Kanna, 28th successor to the
Kirishima style of karate. Are _you_ the Supreme Werewolf I seek?"
(Leni)
"So, you were seeking me personally? Most of the time we
recruit for our packs. And yes, I am the Supreme Werewolf. I am Leni.
"If we choose to allow you to join, I will choose what pack you
will go into, and the pack leader will choose who will change you. How
strong you are is determined by how strong the wolf that changes you is. A
wolf is usually as strong as the wolf that changes them, but is rarely
stronger.
"Why do you want to join us?"
(Kanna)
"Werewolves and vampires and other supernaturals are taking over,"
Kanna explained. "I want to be on the winning side in the battle for
supremacy, and with my strength and skill, I believe I can best serve
the werewolves." She saw Coquelicot beaming up at her and grinned
back. "I have a strong sense of family, and I like the closeness, the
bond, that werewolves seem to share. I love children, too."
(Coquelicot)
The cub grinned at Kanna, then tugged on Leni's shirt.
"I _like_ her, Leni!"
(Maria)
The blonde she-wolf gently, but firmly, pulled the child
aside so that she wouldn't interfere. She was pleased with Kanna's
response and knew without a doubt that this woman would be an
exceptional werewolf, but of course the final decision lay with Leni.
(Leni)
"That's a good answer," Leni nodded. She had no doubts
that this woman would become one of her finest wolves.
"Please," she told Kanna, "follow me."
She walked out of the room and went towards her private quarters.
(Sumire)
Sumire came out of one of the rooms, and stared at the
red-headed woman. She was a barbarian! "Oh, my goodness!"
(Kanna)
The big redhead turned at the sound of the voice and her jaw dropped.
This was the most beautiful woman she'd ever seen.
"Is she one of yours, too?" Kanna asked Leni, nodding toward Sumire.
(Leni)
"Yes," Leni nodded. "This is Sumire. Sumire, this is
Kanna. She will be our newest pack member."
(Sumire)
The woman was very big, but very good looking, and she would be
very _very_ strong. It was best to nuzzle up to her now, and get into her
good graces. Perhaps she could even mate to this one... Strong, healthy
cubs, for certain.
"Hello, Kanna," she murmured seductively. "It's nice to meet
you. I'm so happy we'll have a nice, big wolf in our pack."
(Kanna)
"Nice to meet you ... Sumire," even her name was beautiful, Kanna
thought. And she was looking at her like she might be interested, too.
"Is she mated to anyone?" she hissed to Leni, forgetting that werewolves
have excellent hearing.
(Sumire)
Sumire giggled as charmingly as possible. "It's not polite to
whisper, you know," she told Kanna. "And no, I'm not mated... yet."
(Leni)
Leni shook her head. Sumire would never change. She was the
most recently created wolf. She was still adjusting, and didn't always
believe everything she was told. If Kanna decided to mate her, she would
begin to understand. Perhaps that was for the best.
"Please, Kanna, this way," she indicated to her quarters. "You
can rub noses in an hour."
(Kanna)
Rub noses? THAT sounded interesting!
She gave Sumire one last look of desire before following
Leni into her quarters.
(Leni)
She knew the best way to do this by now. The moment Kanna's
back was turned, she shifted into wolf-form and leapt on her, biting her
deeply in the muscled shoulder.
(Kanna)
Being a karate master meant instantaneous reaction to attack, and in
the same instant Leni leapt on her, Kanna grabbed her by the scruff of
the neck without thinking of it - but she couldn't pull her off before
the pain of the bite hit and she realized what Leni was doing. She
released the wolf and toppled forward onto the floor.
(Leni)
Leni shook her head a bit. The was a strong reaction. She was
pleased to have a reaction like that.
She padded over on four tiny paws, and kneeled down. Licking
the blood away, she began to clean the wound, knowing her saliva would hurry
the proceess along even faster, plus she might be stronger from the extra
contact in those first critical minutes. It had worked for Maria,
Coquelicot and Sumire...
(Kanna)
Kanna could feel some odd changes taking place inside her, along with
an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion - like her strength was draining
away. Her eyelids grew heavy. She knew that when she awakened, she
would begin a whole new life.
Sleep claimed her.
(Leni)
Leni was quite satisfied. She had a good feeling about this new
wolf. She knew that she would be loyal and dependable. All of which made a
perfect packmate.
(Kanna)
The woman's eyes opened as she regained consciousness. She was no
longer human.
Power surged throughout her the more fully she awakened and noise
assaulted her newly-sensitive ears. And the smells! So many senses
coming alive at once was overwhelming and she felt rather dizzy. She
sat up slowly and put a hand to her head. "It's ... incredible," was
all she could say, in an awed tone.
(Leni)
"Welcome to the pack, Kanna," Leni smiled as she shifted into
human form. "How do you feel?"
(Kanna)
"Stronger," Kanna said. "And ... more sensitive to outside stuff."
She rubbed her ear. "I can hear things - not just things here in the
room but outside. And the scents are confusing."
(Leni)
Leni nodded. "Being a werewolf is all instinct, though. You'll
learn just because your instincs will teach you. You'll learn to ignore
scents that you recognize. You'll learn to filter out that which you know
you need not hear. On the other paw, you'll learn how to filter through
smells and sounds to grasp what you want. You'll be able to tell if a
person lies because of his heartbeat, and the change in his scent.
"Before we leave this room, we have to have you shift for your
first time. It can be very difficult for a first timer. Very
overwhelming."
(Kanna)
Shift? Kanna thought, puzzled, then realized what Leni meant. She was
supposed to change into wolf form!
She wasn't sure how to go about it, but wondered if just _wanting_ to
would do it. She concentrated everything on the animal part of herself
that now existed and all the new gifts she'd been given because of it.
I ... want ... to be ... a WOLF!
Her focus changed abruptly as she went from six-foot-four to
considerably less than that. The second thing she noticed was that she
could see her own nose protruding way out from the centre of her face.
A glance downwards and she saw two large, furry red paws.
Kanna the she-wolf threw back her head and howled.
(Maria)
The sound of the new voice in the pack was quickly picked up on
by all others. The sheer power and joy of it was unmistakable, and
Maria smiled. Kanna was one of them.
(Sumire)
Sumire looked up from where she was talking to a cub. The howl
pierced right through her. She shifted in mid sentence, and bounded
down the hall.
Something about the voice of that wolf called to her, and she
couldn't
resist.
She snuffled around the door of the Supreme Werewolf, and she
smelled it...
(Kanna)
The large red wolf looked up at the new scent, somehow knowing to whom
it belonged. She saw the other wolf with the darker shade of red fur
peering around the edge of the doorway and her ears perked up straight.
In only one bounding leap she was in front of the other she-wolf,
touching her nose to that of the newcomer.
Sumire, she identified with satisfaction, and rubbed her big face
against the pretty wolf's. Then she began snuffling all over Sumire's
body, imprinting her scent in her memory for all time. As she came
around behind her, she suddenly pounced, pinning the other female to the
ground under her weight and wrapping her huge jaws around the back of
her neck, applying only slight warning pressure.
You are MY she-wolf now, Kanna thought fiercely. Don't fight me.
Don't make me hurt you ....
(Sumire)
Sumire saw this huge, red wolf, and felt an immediate connection.
Yes, this was it.
She watched the wolf bound over, and began her own sniffing
explorations.
The huge wolf smelled... right. There was no other way to put it.
She felt Kanna pushing her down, felt the huge jaws wrap around her
neck.
Being who she was, she almost resisted. But this was Kanna, and in
this form, there was no resistance for her.
She laid still, as only a werewolf ever could. Yes, she thought. I
am yours.
(Kanna)
The larger wolf held onto the back of the smaller one's neck for
several moments until it felt like long enough to have made her point
and had it accepted, then she jumped off and joyously washed Sumire's
face with her tongue - her tail wagging like a common dog's.
(Sumire)
Sumire watched Kanna act like a common dog, then shifted to
human form.
Sitting decorously on the floor, she watched, and waited for
Kanna to shift back.
(Kanna)
The enormous she-wolf saw that Sumire had switched to human
form and immediately did so herself. She didn't know why Leni had
said the first time in wolf form was tough - she'd love it!
More so than that, she loved the beautiful she-wolf who had
agreed to belong to her. Moving forward on her knees, she took
Sumire's beautiful face between her large hands and kissed her tenderly.
(Sumire)
"Kanna-san," Sumire breathed softly.
(Leni)
"Well, this is an unexpected twist," Leni chuckled softly. "Now
perhaps you'll settle a bit, Sumire. Now you know the others are telling
the truth."
(Sumire)
Sumire hung her head submissively. There were now three wolves that
she would do this with. Leni, Maria and now Kanna. All other wolves were
her inferiors.
(Kanna)
Truth? Kanna wondered. What did that mean?
Out loud, she said to Leni. "So what do I do now? Introduce myself
to the others?"
(Leni)
"As your bitch, Sumire will deal with that," Leni nodded. "She show
you to your quarters, and then you can meet some of the wolves. But a lot
are sleeping. This is vampire time, and most wolves are diurnal."
(Sumire)
"Yes, of course I'll show her to our quarters," Sumire said, rising
gracefully to her feet. "Come, Kanna-san."
(Kanna)
A little surprised that the use of the term 'bitch' for a female no
longer offended her as it once did, Kanna happily followed Sumire,
admiring her graceful motions and thinking how lucky she was that this
amazing creature was hers.
***********************************
(Glycine)
Glycine glided soundlessly to his mistresses side.
"Mistress Lobelia, something has happened tonight. The moon is red.
All the signs are pointing towards disaster for vampire kind. The wolves
have become very strong in just one moment," she told her, worry in her
tone.
(Lobelia)
"I felt it as well," Lobelia admitted. "I do not know what has
occurred, but surely the werewolves have increased their strength
significantly. I think it is time to send in a spy. Send for my human
servant."
(Ichirou)
Ichirou walked into the room, and bowed to Lobelia. "Yes, my
mistress? You wished to see me?"
As Lobelia's human servant, he was her daytime eyes, and the one
that protected her from harm when she couldn't herself. He practically
worshipped her, and hoped someday that he might join her for eternity.
(Lobelia)
"Ichirou," the vampire practically purred his name. She knew he was
devoted to her, and he was the only one she trusted with this
assignment. "The werewolves have become a bigger threat to us than
before - something has changed and their strength has just increased. I
need to know what the reason for this is, and if possible, eliminate
it. To discover this, you will have to infiltrate their ranks."
(Ichirou)
Ichirou blinked. "But, Mistress... I don't... " a tear
silently rolled down his cheek. He had never been afraid to show his
emotions, and at the moment, he was crushed. "I don't want to be a
werewolf!" he cried out.
(Lobelia)
"You are the only one I trust," Lobelia said stubbornly, but the
sight of his tears did not fall on a cold heart. "However, if _you_ can
find another who will do this job for us, and successfully, I will not only
spare you the trip, but I will change you into a vampire upon completion
of the mission."
(Ichirou)
He bit his lip. He wanted to do what his mistress asked, but to
think of being forever parted from her was horrible.
"I understand, Mistress, I just don't want to be parted from
you. To go to them means that I will forever be parted from you, and might
as well die."
"I will search for one, but I don't think I will find any
willing to sacrifice their lives. I will go, and I will try and do much
damage from the inside before I take my own life," he lifted his chin, and
squared his shoulders. "Anything for you, Mistress."
(Erica)
Another human servant in the castle who had been listening in, suddenly
ran into the room and threw herself at the feet of the Supreme Vampire.
"No, Mistress, let me go!" she begged. "Ichirou is far too important
to you, and I can do the job! I shall willingly sacrifice myself for
the vampire cause!"
(Lobelia)
The Supreme Vampire studied the girl thoughtfully.
Her name was Erica, she knew, but she knew little else about
her - she hadn't been with her that long. Still, she _was_
willing, and she didn't want to sacrifice Ichirou if she
didn't have to.
"Very well, Erica. You may do this for me. If you
return successful, you will be richly rewarded." She lifted
the girl's chin so that she could look straight into her eyes.
"However, if you betray me, I will kill you."
(Erica)
The young girl gulped. "Yes, Ma'am," she whispered.
(Ichirou)
Ichirou looked stunned. He hadn't known this girl
long. She was a clumsy child. But if she wanted to go where
he didn't, so be it.
(Glycine)
"Erica likes to please, Mistress Lobelia," Glycine
said. She knew Erica a bit better than most, since she used the
girl for her own designs quite often. "And she is sweet enough
that the others will fall for her. Of course, Ichirou is rather
sweet as well. You could send either one and they would be taken
in. The werewolves are gullible."
(Lobelia)
The Supreme Vampire nodded. "Yes, I think Erica is innocent
enough in appearance and guileless enough that the werewolves would not
suspect her of espionage. Go, my child, and bring back whatever
information you can get."
(Erica)
The human girl bowed her head. "Yes, my Mistress," she said, and
departed to prepare for her journey. When she reached her room, she
securely locked the door, then pulled out a case from where she had
hidden it beneath some loose floorboards. She opened the case and
checked her inventory. Stakes, holy water, a gun with plenty of silver
bullets.
For Erica was not merely a human servant of the vampires - she was
already working undercover on her own account. Her dear friend had been
stolen by supernaturals, and since that day she had vowed to kill the
Supreme Vampire, the Supreme Werewolf, and as many of their strongest
followers as she could manage. Thus far, she had not attempted to kill
any of them because she had not the opportunity - perhaps starting with
the werewolves would afford her that chance, as well as get her in
deeper trust with Lobelia, who was sure to be her most difficult
target. Closing the case with a snap, Erica finished getting ready to
leave.
to be continued...
