Save the dolphins
The Oceans.... Alive?
It was virtually impossible, they said. Super tankers were built in such a way that the very thought of spilling oil was outrageous. And, if the impossible were to happen, emergancy procedures would leap into place before any major damage was dealt to the environment.. Yet, when it happened, it happened so quickly  and with such devastation that we were not prepared. Our earth and our oceans will never be the same. How many times will this type of catastrophe that can never happen become a nightmarish reality before we realize what the costs are to our planet.
In Florida last week, thirty million liters of raw sewage was spilled into the Indian River and eventually into the Atlantic Ocean causing polution to spread along the coastline for miles. They said it was the results of a hurricane. Was this disaster really the cause of mother nature? Or, was it the fault of not having a proper damage control system in place? Southern Florida is well known for it's hurricanes.  On the other hand, in Nova Scotia, a group of fisherman got together and decided to return all their daily garbage when they returned from their catch rather than tossing  it overboard as was usual .How little it takes. Their dedication to the protection of earth's environment is to be commended.
Will it make a difference?  Sure it will. Once it becomes part of our hearts, in all six billion of us, that we are not here only to use our ocean's resources but also to have the responsibility for its guardianship, then the whales, porpoises, seals, sea lions, sea otters, fish, crustaceans and millions of other living things that dwell there can also sustain and support the chain of ocean life..
