A Message from our Minister

As the Season of Nonviolence was approaching, I was called to examine my own beliefs, hidden or otherwise, about the concept of nonviolence.  I may not like what I see sometimes, but I have a resounding belief in a God that is greater than my own limited understanding of the world.

I remember a time when I believed a world without violence was impossible.  I looked around at the people in my community and felt the fear and anger than many of them expressed through their actions.  How can we ever achieve world peace when we can't even find it in our own neighborhoods?

But as my thinking changed and my practice of nonviolence increased and deepened, I found a greater peace within myself and I felt hope for the world.  I found that when I gave up being in charge of the world and trusted it more to God's care, I found less agitation in what others were doing or not doing.  I needed to put my own actions into check and take resonsibilty for my fears and anger instead of working so hard to make everyone else at fault.  It's amazing how quickly shift happens when we stay centered and focused on humanity instead of our own little selves.

Our Peace Team came to the same conclusion by finding that peace begins and ends within our own hearts and minds.  Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.

With Love and Blessings,
Reverend Carrie Lauer
The Season of Nonviolence is a time (January 30th through April 4th) for us to change the world's consciousness by re-dedicating ourselves to the peace within all of us.

At Our Church of Religious Science, we are honoring this period by facilitating a book study using Riane Eisler's
The Power of Partnership.
