'97 FORMULA WS-6
'97
This page is dedicated to our
1997 Pontiac Firebird Formula WS-6. My wife just had to have one
and now that I have experienced and learned more about these cars, I must
say that this was one of the best investments available at this time.
According to Pontiac Enthusiast Magazine, there were only 473 of the Formula
optioned Firebirds produced in 1997 that received the WS-6 option package!
There were just over 2,000 Trans-Am's in '97 with the WS-6 package.
We had ordered the car and were told that it would not be produced in time
to be a '97 and would fall under the '98 model year. At the time,
we had seen the '98 body style with out ram-air and thought that the ram-air
models would look the same as the non-ram-air. (Boy were we wrong, '98's
are Sweet!) The dealer had just gotten in a WS-6 Formula that they
had ordered just before we ordered ours. The only differences were
leather when we ordered cloth and 500 watt Monsoon CD when we ordered 500
watt Monsoon Cassette with 6 disc changer. So, we went ahead and
picked this one up. We had the dealer paint on the silver racing
stripes and added in an alarm system with a pager.
This is us at the dealership
the day we picked up the car. We had it for about 2 days without
the racing stripes before the dealer had a chance to get it in to paint
them on.
This is what the car looks
like now. It's hard to see in this picture, but the license plate
is on the dash by the windshield. Our plates say "STREAKN" in honor
of the stripes.
This is us as we were leaving
for our 1st (of many) road trip with the car.
About a month after we picked
up the car, we went on a road trip over the 4th of July. While visiting
family, I learned of a drag race at an airport in Rugby, ND. It was
the first year they ran there, and has since become an annual event.
The cost was well worth it. 30 bucks and I was in (however, I was
running late and got a $45 speeding ticket on the way to the race, Oops!).
I ended up taking 2nd place in the small block division. I will soon
be adding a video of some of the race footage. The above picture
is me with the trophy while explaining the '69 Camaro that beat me to my
father-in-law and below is me next to the car. (Fuzzy, but unfortunatly
the only picture I've got.)
There is more information,
facts, and pictures, along with the race video still to come. Please
check back soon.
