Renee Carlson - Your motivational speaker who tells it like it is!

[email protected]

Be prepared to find that peace you have been striving for.  You don't have to feel isolated and alone.  We live in a society that dictates schedules for us that are almost impossible to achieve.  Ask yourself these questions:

  • When you are asked to volunteer your time, do you say yes simply because you don't feel you have the choice to say no?
  • Are your finances becoming so overwhelming that your physical wellbeing is suffering?
  • Are you depressed?
  • Is your family suffering because of your depression?
  • Are you stuck in a job you hate and find it more and more difficult to go to work?

If you said yes to any of these questions, I may be able to help!  My style of therapy may be slightly different from the typical counselor or motivational speaker. I combine comedy and personal involvement with workbooks that each client is welcome to work on with me or at home. My clients leave each session refreshed, invigorated and motivated to be the very best people that they can possibly be!

How to get started - The process for individual sessions

You don't have to suffer and wait for some seminar date to come around.  For one on one sessions, we can begin working on improving your life the same day you contact me.  The process is very simple:

  • Email or Call me and explain your personal situation.
  • As we talk, I will ask you a few questions to cater our appointment to your needs.  This will insure that your session is going to be unique from all other sessions I conduct.  ALL conversations we have are confidential unless I feel you may hurt yourself, hurt others or if your situation implicates you in a criminal offense.
  • We will then set a time and date where we can both meet or talk on the phone in a comfortable setting.
  • I will give you information to pay me through PayPal with a credit card.  Other forms of payment excepted are cash, money order and personal checks.  Personal checks will have to be held until they clear, however.
  • After payment is received, I will call you to confirm our appointment.

About My Family...

My husband, Sean and I have been happily married for almost 18 years now. I count the year we lived together because we were just as committed then as we have been since the wedding. Officially, we have been married almost 17 years. Sean left for Special Forces training shortly after we were married.

Next came Gwendolyn Aleigh. She was born September 17, 1992. Gwen had Cerebral Palsy and a feeding tube. You would never know to look at her because she was ALWAYS smiling, but Gwen had constant pain. Gwen died shortly after her 1st birthday, October 25, 1993. She was at daycare and died in her sleep. They call it "SUDS" or Sudden Unexpected Death Syndrome because she was over a year old and no longer an infant. I am writing a book about her and love to share stories about her all the time. Gwen always had these deep blue sparkly eyes that you could get lost in. She spoke through her eyes. When she passed away and they let me hold her, I knew she was gone because her eyes were yellow (they were 1/2 open). It was a sort of peace and closure for me.

After Gwen died, Sean and I felt empty and started trying for another child right away. While Sean and I were still in mourning, my best friend from college, Leah, came to take care of us. She said that people would go on with their lives but that we would still need someone to help us mourn. Leah flew to Massachusetts from Alaska on a one way ticket. She did not leave until she was sure we were ok.

In 1995, I finally conceived our daughter. We named her Leah, after my good friend, to honor my friend for all she did for us. Leah is athletic, strong willed (God help us), and she would like to be a marine. Leah always thinks of others first, she always has. She empties the dishwasher without being asked, cooks breakfast, does laundry, etc. She was a joyful baby and I think the only complaint I have is that she fights with her brother about everything!

Which brings me to Nathaniel. Nathan for short. He was born in 1998, 2 months early due to a ruptured appendix, which threw me into hard labor. *I* find Nathan to be a riot. He has to be the funniest person I know. Great comedic timing, intelligent responses, witty, etc. However, some teachers, Sean and Leah don't seem to have the same appreciation for my little man :-). Nathan was born deaf and has a speech impediment. His hearing comes and goes so I learned ASL to be able to communicate with him. One of the funniest stories was one I heard from his speech therapist. She asked him to say a word, something small that started with an "S." Nathan looked at her (this was in Kindergarten) and said, "I'm sorry, I can't say that word because I have a speech impediment." LOL! The teacher told him that if he could say "Impediment" he could definitely say the word she wanted him to.

Well, I suppose we are down to me now. I am a writer (notice? LOL), an actor, I love to learn, I volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team, helping others is something I truly enjoy, I like to cook and I love to garden. This past summer, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and I am now dealing with that. But that disease does not define who I am, it's just one more part of me. I write blogs that are heartfelt and more than likely, offensive to some. I know who my friends are and I know who is a fake. Real friends are always there for you and support you through tough times; fakes are only around when you are happy and full of joy. So, I have only a handful of friends, but they are people that I can call on in a second and they will be right here to help me.
