| EDCE 201: Career and Life Planning Chapter Review - Chapters 1 & 2 _________________________________________________________________________________________ Part I: Provide a brief one or two sentence answer to each part of the following questions. Each question is worth 5 points. 1.The Wellness Wheel, which was adapted from William Hettlers work at the National Wellness Institute, is made up of six dimensions. Which of these six dimensions might you like to improve in your life? What one thing might you do this week to begin improving that dimension of your life? 2. Based on their experience in counseling college and university students Carney and Wells have come to believe that students who enter college directly after high school are confronted with four developmental tasks during their college years. Which of those four developmental tasks do you feel you need to work on the most? Why? 3. Carney and Wells discuss three different types of decision strategies. Choose one of the strategies and provide an example of a time you used this strategy to make a decision. Did that strategy work for you? If you could do it over, would you use a different strategy? Why? 4. Carney and Wells discuss the six stages of an informed career decision. Each of you may find yourself in a different stage of your career decision process. Briefly tell me which stage are you believe you are in and why. (If you are having trouble deciding which stage you are in, review the examples given for each stage on pages 38-45 in your text.) Part II: One important step in career planning is exploring and learning about yourself. This week I would like you to bring something to class to share that will help your classmates and instructor learn more about you. Some ideas: > play your favorite song for the class and tell us why it is your favorite song (no violent or offensive lyrics, please) > show us your favorite toy when you were a child and tell us why you think you loved that toy so much > bring a picture of your family or significant other and tell us something special about them > bring in your favorite book and tell us why you enjoy it > bring in an example of your hobby and tell us why you enjoy it > bring in picture of your pet and tell us about their special qualities > share a poem you (or someone else) have written and tell us why the poem is special to you > wear a favorite piece of clothing or jewelry and tell us why it is your favorite > bring in the one most important item you brought to college with you and tell us why you couldnt leave home with it |
