Kate's Valentine of the Week:
Zhou Enlai
His name can be spelled Zhou Enlai or Chou En-lai but is pronounced "Joe"

Was known as a peacemaker

Backed Mao but kept a handle on him at times

Died in 1976

Is a well loved and respected leader of the CCP
NOTE:  I am not a communist, but he is.  Was...whatever.
Ah, red, the color of love, and, coincidentally communism!  This week, we bring to you our special communist valentines!  They certainly love red and we certainly need valentines!  Anyway, this is Zhou Enlai.  Amy and I took a Chinese Politics class last semester for those of you who didn't know that.  In spending time together she quickly took the same Mao and I quickly took the name Zhou, Mao's partner in crime.  Zhou was one of the founders of the Chinese Communist Party (or the CCP for short).  He escaped being captured by Chiang Kaishek and met Mao Zsedong.  Mao became the leader of China and Zhou political commisar.  Zhou worked to handle the Maoist extremists.  He arranged meetings with President Nixon and Mao which was the beginning step to having communism recognized.
All right, enough of the history lesson.  Zhou is the communist man.  While I'm certainly not a communist, and I can't believe the things Mao did, his second in command wasn't quite as bad as he was and was mourned quite a lot, against what anti-Zhou people did to stop them, upon his death.  Yes, he's dead.  No, I'm not into that.  He was charasmatic, diplomatic, and HYYYYDROMATIC, wait, no, that's Grease...  He died in 1976 of cancer being a well respected and loved leader.
