| As I write this I am listening to all kinds of Green Day music. In case you don't know it, Billie Joe is the lead singer and guitarist for the band Green Day. I have loved them since I was in, oh, lets say 6th grade. That would make the year 1996 and me a whopping 12 years old. That's a long time to be in love. haha Certain kinds of music remind me of certain times in my life. It's like I buy a CD (well, in Green Day's case a tape, and it was Dookie) and then listen to it over and over and then for the rest of my life I will associate that music with what was happening when I listened to it. Green Day is middle school. It's great memories of hanging out with Shannon, riding bikes, going to the beach, having sleepovers, talking to strange people online, being pre teen and teenage "rebels," eating candy, going to dances, and discovering the type of people we are. In the same way that Green Day reminds me of these things so does Billie Joe. Maybe I've been overly thoughtful lately but with Green Day's release of Boulevard of Broken Dreams (from American Idiot, good CD) and their CD International Superhits that I got for Christmas, I've been reminded of their greatness. Billie Joe was also very involved in campaigning for John Kerry and making fun of Bush. I think that rocks. Hmm, here are some random facts about him. His guitar is named Blue and he's had it since he was 10 years old. He wrote Brain Stew one night when his son Joseph wouldn't go to sleep. He's a vegetarian. He dropped out of high school (boo). Okay, I think I've plead my case as to why I love Billie Joe so much. If you don't know Green Day you should and if you do know them, well, then you understand. |
