Summer Vacation 2001

We flew to Las Vegas where we spent 2 nights. We saw all the sights (good and bad) on the strip.

The Venetian Hotel

I always promised to take Monica to Paris

After walking around in the 100 degree plus heat we decided to cool off in the hotel lobby.

We left Las Vegas without putting even a nickel in a slot machine.
Gambling is for suckers!

On the way to the Grand Canyon, we stopped for a tour of Hoover Dam and Lake Mead.

The strawberry smoothies were refreshing on the Lake Mead boat tour.

We spent 4 days at the Grand Canyon

Lunch time on the Bright Angel Trail. Eric was very disappointed that we couldn't go all the way to the bottom
(it's a 2 day hike with temperatures of 110+ at the bottom, maybe in a couple of years we'll do the hike)

Monica caught conspiring with one of her squirrel buddies.
(squirrels are stinky, dirty, lowdown, lazy, good-for-nothing, flea-bitten, plague-carrying tree rats!)
No, she's not feeding it, just teasing it with an empty hand.

We were passed on the South Kaibab trail by some very uncomfortable looking people on the Mule ride coming up from Phantom Ranch. I think I'd rather hike it.

We left the Grand Canyon through the East exit through the Painted Desert and spent the night in Flagstaff where the clerk at the Amerisuites tried twice to put us in smoking rooms even though we insisted on non-smoking.
I finally persuaded him that if he wanted our business we'd get a non-smoking room.
We spent only one night in Flagstaff (instead of the planned 2).

We drove the route 89A mountain loop around Sedona Arizona.

On the way to California, we stopped at the London Bridge in Lake Havasu Arizona.

We arrived in Rancho Mirage California where the Telecom Industry meeting was being held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. While Jim attended his meetings the family enjoyed the resort.

The boys relax in the Ritz Carlton lobby.

Elliot and Eric survey the San Andreas Fault near Palm Desert.

Eric occupies a Weavers Nest model at the "Living Desert" nature park in Palm Desert.

Eric found a friend at the petting zoo.

After spending 2 weeks in the dry air it was a relief to come home to the Florida humidity( I never thought I'd miss the humidity so much! ).
