Ottawa Restaurant Reviews

The Cottage and a Kitchen
Review Date: January 2006

163 Parkdale Ave (behind Tunney's Pasture)

Type: Canadian (for lack of a better term)

Atmosphere: The restaurant is located in an unattractive looking house. The inside is quite nicely done and has a cottage atmosphere. It was renovated extensively after replacing the greasy spoon that formerly occupied the building.

Service: Friendly and knowledgeable, but a little slow.

Food: I can only comment on the lunch menu as my numerous visits have been for lunch. It is small and consists mainly of crepes, sandwiches and wraps. There are only a couple of vegetarian choices. You're not going to get a burger or a club sandwich here - the sandwiches and wraps are somewhat unusual, my favourite being the jerk chicken wrap. The food is good and healthy (no french fries, either salad or pita chips), my only complaint is that the portions are a little small and I find myself hungry not long after eating.

The draft beers are all from micro breweries, including local ones like Heritage Brewing and Scotch Irish Brewing.

Price: Reasonable

Worth a return visit?: I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but when I'm in the area I don't object if someone else suggests it.
