Chapter
1
Mia and Natalie sat silently by the phone, in there New York City loft.
Mia was picking at her nails, and Natalie was chewing on ice. "When
is the gosh darn phone gonna ring, Mia?" Natalie nearly screamed.
"Whenever they decide to stop torturing us." "Yeah...that
better be soon or I'm gonna go loco on there asses." Mia just shook
her head and laughed, "Well, that won't take much. Will it?"
Natalie smiled and continued chewing on her ice. "I hope we tour
with someone like...oh I don't know, Destiny's Child...maybe BSB or
prehaps 'N SYNC...." there was a long pause, "Or maybe my
future husband....ya know Dan-The-Man Miller!" Natalie smiled.
"That's what I'm talkin' bout. 6 loooooong months with that fine
meat, Ashley Parker Angel!" The two girls broke into fits of
giggles and suddenly the shrill of the phone riniging filled the room.
"You answer it Mia..." Natalie said biting into a piece of
ice. "No, you." The phone just kept on ringing. "Nooooo,
you! I'm eating." Natalie said stuffing a little piece of bread
into her mouth. Mia sighed, and reached over for the phone. "Mi and
Nat, Mi speaking." "Mia?" a loud, booming voice said.
"Yes, that's me." "Hello, this is Robert Hauer from Jive
Records speaking. We're calling to conform your tour information."
"Yes, yes go on." He chuckled, "A bit anxious, are
we?" "A bit? I'm thinking VERY anxious. Tell me!" He
laughed. "Well, I'll make it simple. This is really all you need to
know. You girls will be flying down to Houston, Texas in two weeks. Let
me see what else....um, you'll have a tour bus. Well, pack a lot of
lounging clothes for the road, we'll do wardrobe some time this week.
Let me see what else....be prepared for screaming girls. You've got a
package of some nice looking young men as the headline." She
stopped him before he went on. "WHO?" "That must be the
important thing, right?" She didn't even reply. "O-Town."
"Oh, thanks so much!" "You're welcome. That's all. We'll
call to inform you on your wardrobe fitting, and so on." "Alrighty,
thanks. Bye Robert!" "Bye."
"Who? Who is it? Omigosh, tell me!" Natalie said, nearly
tackling Mia. "O-Town." "OMIGOD!!!!!!" Mia laughed,
"Now we can get married." Natalie smiled. "Screw married,
I want Ashley's KIDS!" Mia laughed, "No, you don't want his
kids. You want his sex." Natalie nodded, and turned around.
"We leave when?" "Houston, two weeks. We have a wardrobe
fitting sometime this week." "Coolness."
Time flew by for the two girls. The wardrobe fitting was like nothing
they had ever expierenced before. Suddenly it was as if they were huge
stars. TRL found out they'd be touring with O-Town, and wanted them to
pay a visit to the show. Of course, management aggreed.
They were leaving for Houston the day after there TRL interview, so it
was going to be a long and exciting two days. "Mi!! We're gonna
meet Dan, Ash and Carson. Is that NOT amazing?" Mia just laughed,
and kept a steady glance on the floor. "Mia, what's wrong?"
Natalie said, sitting down beside her. Mia sighed deeply and looked over
at her best friend. "I am just so nervous. I mean, what if they
hate us? Can you imagine spending 6 months with people you hate?"
Natalie looked at her sadly. "How can they hate us? We're gonna
marry them." Mia just shook it off, laughing and walked over to the
set to meet Carson.
'If she only knew about Jacob. God, how can I tell her? She'll never
believe me. He hates me, that's for sure. I don't know exactly how to
break the ice to her, maybe I just shouldn't. I guess I'll let her find
out tomorrow. Right? Am I doing the right thing? Please, God...answer
this.' Mia thought while listening to Carson ramble on about how excited
the audience was about them being here.
"Mystic is actually a bigger hit than you two think. You're single,
'This is Mystic' is actually doing very well. You guys were at #4
yesterday, and at #3 were your touring buddies. So, they'd better watch
out. You might steal the show!" Natalie laughed and talked to him
for a while. Sooner than expected the commercial was over and Carson was
introducing the two girls. "This is it Mi! We're famous now."
Natalie said pulling her out.
They shook a few hands, and walked over to the window smiling. The two
began to wave, when Mia saw a sign that shocked her. "Wow,"
she said to Carson laughing, "my first time on the show and I
already have a marriage proposal." Carson nodded, "And believe
me Mia Crawford, that's hard to do." She smiled, and went to her
spot for the show. As the #6 video played down she, Natalie and Carson
made casual conversation.
"So, let me get straight to the point ladies. Boyfriends, or any
interests?" Natalie laughed, and shook her head no.
"But....there are some pretty nice lookin' men here today."
"What? No O-Town crushes? C'mon ladies....give us the dirt."
"It's a business thing. We don't know them yet." Mia said,
sounding smart. "Well, we've got a smart one here. How about you
Mia? Any boyfriends?" Mia laughed, and stated sarcastically,
"Yes, I've got 7 of them. Don't you remember Carson? You're one of
them!" He laughed, "Oh, yes yes. That's it. I remember
now." The girls stayed until after there video, and then they had
to go catch there flight. "Good luck ladies, hope to see you
soon." Carson said as they left. "Bye Carson!" Mia said,
laughing still. Natalie waved good-bye and smiled.
Chapter 2
This is mystic

"Dude, they sound pretty cool. I mean, "Mystic Meanings"
for the name of an album? That rocks. I have to admit, that Natalie
girl. Can we say hot?" Ashley said rambling on and on about there
new opening acts. Dan nodded in agreement, "They're pretty
talented, I beg to differ on the hot thing though. I'm feeling that Mia
chic, she's hot. What do you think guys?" Jacob passed, referring
to his girlfriend. Trevor and Erik both agreed that they thought Natalie
was a bit hotter than Mia. Dan just blew them off, and went on rambling
about vocals. "Well, Mia's a better singer." Ashley laughed,
"True, but who has sex appeal? Natalie! Natalie!" They all
laughed, and continued there pointless conversation.
"BOYS!" Jay yelled into there hotel room. "I'M GOING TO
PICK UP THE GIRLS! BE READY WHEN I GET BACK!" "Okay, Jay-Jay
the Jet Plane!" Erik yelled back, and went back to talking to
Ashley about Natalie. Dan smiled at Jacob, "Heard from Janie
lately?" Jacob smirked a bit and nodded. "She's comin' to
visit for a few weeks starting next week. I'm so psyched. It's been a
while." Dan nodded, "You're lucky man. You've got a
girl." Jacob shrugged, thinking back to his past. "She's
nothing compared to my ex." "Really? What was your ex
like?" "Amazing....but I guess things didn't work out. We'll
see." Dan just nodded, and started flipping through News Weekly.
Mia grabbed Natalie's hand as they walked through the airport. There
management was having one of the O-Town managers pick them up because
there flight was later than the girls. "Jay, right?" Mia
nodded. "I think so." They saw a grouchy looking man holding a
sign that said, "Mya and Natalie". "Who the hell is Mya?"
Mia said. "I don't know. MI-A." They walked up to Jay smiling.
"Hello, we're Mia and Nat." Mia said politely. "Okay,
let's go. I'm on a tight schdule." "Okay, then." Mia said
following him.
"We're meeting the boys at the hotel, and your management will be
in about 4 hours from now. They said that they expected to see you
tomorrow, but to just warm up to the guys tonight. Considering you'll be
spending the next 6 months with them." "Yeah, yeah...we know.
We already talked to Jen." "Oh, okay." He said speeding
down the interstate.
25 minutes they arrived, grabbing there bags they went to check in.
"No need to worry about that ladies. You're in room 220, the boys
are next door in 222. Your management is in 118, and I am in 106."
The girls just nodded, and went up to there room. "GOD MIA! IT'S A
SUITE!" Mia nodded, "Yes it is. Now, I wanna go meet the
guys." She walked out of the door, knowing that Natalie would
follow her.
She knocked on the door, and waited silently for an answer. Her heart
was racing, and her mind was scattered. Just her luck, Jacob answered
the door. He played it off perfectly. "You guys must be Mystic.
Come on in!" Mia smiled and walked in Natalie following her like a
lost puppy. "Guys, Mystic is here!" They all came stumbling
into the room. "Hi, I'm Dan." He said said shaking there
hands, but lingering on Mia's. She just smiled, and pulled her hand
back. Mia noticed how all the guys were looking at Natalie with goo-goo
eyes except Dan and Jacob. Jacob had a steady hold on the floor, and she
noticed Dan checking her out every so often.
The girls talked to the boys for a little while, and Mia looked up only
to notice Jacob was missing. She looked over at Dan, "Where'd Jacob
go?" Dan shrugged. "Don't know. He's been in a mood...you'll
get used to them though." Mia nodded, and silently thought. 'I
already know about Jacob's moods.' Sighing, she asked where the bathroom
was. Ashley looked over at her, beaming because Natalie was flirting
with him, "Right across from the room with all the noise." Mia
laughed, and headed in the direction of the door. Hopefully, there
bathroom was in the same place. She stopped, and stood outside the
bathroom door to hear Jacob's voice flowing through the halls.

She stopped, and let a tear fall down her cheek. "He loves
me...." She said before entering the bathroom. Jacob looked up at
the ceiling fan, and harshly wiped his tears away. "God
Mia...why?" He said, breaking down into tears. Mia quickly did her
business, and then knocked on Jacob's door. "Hold on." She
heard him choke out. She watched through the crack as he walked over to
a sink and splashed water on his face. He walked over, and opened the
door. "Mia...." he said, looking down. Stepping forward she
looked him in the eyes. "You still love me, Jacob?" He sucked
his breath in, and looked towards the wall. "I told you I would,
Mia. I said I'll always love you. Don't blame me for not being able to
do it publicly. You knew that I would've dropped anything for you, at
any minute...but you couldn't handle that. God, Mia...I'll always
frickin' love you...but you through that away. Don't play stupid. You
knew it, you knew I loved you." He said, looking at her. With that,
he pushed the door shut again. Mia felt tears welling up in her eyes,
and walked back into the room, blinking them away quickly. "I'm
gettin' kinda tired Nat, I'm going to bed." She said, seeing it was
2:25 A.M. Natalie looked at her friends wet eyes, and decided it was
time for her to go too. "We'll see ya'll in the morning." She
said, walking over to her friend. "C'mon Mi, let's go."
Chapter 3
Natalie forced her into the room. "What's going on? Why are you
crying? O-Town is next door Mia!" Mia broke down into sobs. "I
hurt him...I hurt him bad....he hates me." She said, sobbing into a
pillow. Natalie walked over, and rubbed her friends hair. "Who,
Mi?" Mia continued to sob, and then held them back for a minute.
"Nat...I dated Jacob Underwood for two years. I loved him, and he
loved me. I didn't know how deep it was, I had to test my feelings...I
hurt him. I tore him apart....I slept with his best friend Pat. He and
Pat are still friends, but Jake? Jake hates me." Natalie's mouth
dropped. "Oh hunny....are you sure he hates you? Ashley and Dan
were talking about how Jacob always compares Janie to his
ex-girlfriend." Mia sat straight up, "He's dating Janie?"
Mia nodded, oddly. "Janie? That girl is my ex-best friend because
she started hitting on Jake! I can't believe this." She said,
breaking down into sobs again. Natalie pulled her friend up, and looked
her in the eyes. "We can handle this. We can believe this. We can
get through this. Mia, there is a fine specimen in the room next door
who had his eyes on you. So you screwed Jacob over? Now he's dating some
girl that hurt you! So it's time to show him what you're made of. You
show him." Mia wiped her swollen eyes, and looked at Natalie.
"Yeah...I'll show him." She said, trying to be strong. She
leaned over, and hugged her friend.
Jacob leaned against his door, and cried. "I don't love you anymore
Mia...I don't. You did me wrong, and Janie won't. I sware Janie
won't." He said, sobbing. Ashley heard his friend sobbing through
the door, and lightly knocked on the door. "Jake?" He said.
Jacob stood, and opened the door, looking at Ashley. Ashley walked in.
"Oh man, what's wrong?" "You know Mia?" Ashley
laughed. "Man, Dan could've jumped on her and just done that girl
real fast. He was ready to eat her like she was a piece of meat."
Jacob glared at his friend. "Oh yeah, what about her?" Ashley
said, realizing he'd made a mistake. "I dated her, for two years.
She slept with Pat, member Pat? Yeah....and tonight she heard me singing
my song, member my song 'Mia'? That's about her. There's still feelings
there for her, there are. I just can't, I'm supposed to hate her."
Ashley's mouth dropped. "That's that Mia you'd sing about
nightly?" Jacob nodded, looking at his feet. "Man, I'm so
sorry." Jacob shrugged. "Dan likes her. That's fine. I have
Janie." He said, forcing a smile
.
--The Next Day--
Mia awoke to a good start, she made herself some herbel tea to warm up
her vocal cords, and did her daily stretches. Showering quickly, she
changed into dance clothes, and awoke Natalie. "Nat, get up. You
gotta shower, and get ready. We have practice!" Natalie jumped out
of bed, and ran to the bathroom. She closed the door, turned on the
water, and ran back out. "Shoooooooooot! I forgot my clothes."
She said, running around like crazy. She grabbed some black sweats, and
a big t-shirt and ran back into the bathroom. Mia sat down on the bed,
and laid back slowly. "Do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do...." She sang
to herself quietly.
"Do-ti-la-so-fa-mi-re-do...." She sang backwords warming up
her voice. "C'mon boy....you know you want this...kiss me once,
kiss me twice, you'd better to remember to be nice...so young, and so
naive....you know just what you mean to me...." She sang, hearing a
knock on the door. She walked over to the door, plastering a smile
acrossed her face.
She opened the door slowly, and was met eye-to-eye with Jacob. He walked
up, and embraced her. "Mia....you know I'll always love you."
He said, squeezing her. "I just, you know I've moved on. I want you
to move on. Do me the honor of taking you, Dan, Janie and myself out
next week." He said, staring her in the eye. She looked back at
him. "Only if you promise me one thing, Underwood." He smiled
at her. "You will always, always be my friend." He laughed,
and swung her around. "How can I resist such an offer?" He
said putting her down. She looked at him, seriously. "I'm glad we
can work things out like this Jake...I was worried the next 6 months
would be hell." He smiled, and looked her in the eyes. "I'd
never bring ya hell, Mia. Just heaven. Oh, Dan and I were wondering if
you'd accompany the two of us to breakfast." She smiled. "It'd
be my honor." He shook his head, "No, no. It'd be mine."
He said, offering her an arm like an escort.
She quickly jotted a note for Natalie, telling her where she was, and
left. The three had a wonderful breakfast at the hotel restaurant, and
just as they headed back up to the room to get the rest of the gang,
they came out of the elevator. Natalie looked at her friend, and raised
an eyebrow. Mia ran over to her. "Jake came and said he wanted me
to move on and be with Dan. He's taking me, Dan, Janie and himself out
next ween when Janie's here." Natalie looked at her friend dead-on.
"Are you going to be able to see Janie?" Mia nodded.
"It's for the sake of dating, and friendship. I'll live."
The group went to rehursal's, fittings, and interviews all day. "Oh
wow, Mi! This is so much fun." Natalie said, watching Ashley belt
out 'All or Nothing'. "We talked ya know. We're gonna go out
sometime. Mi, he's exactly what I thought he wouldn't be. He's
nice...and sweet....and extremlly funny!" "You didn't think
he'd be that?" "No, actually...I thought he might be kind of
snobbish." "That's why you were going to marry him,
right?" Natalie nodded, proudly as she watched him dance across the
stage. "He is some hot stuff!" Mia just laughed at her friend.
"Sure he is." "What, and you think Dan's ugly?" Mia
looked over at him, and he waved playfully. "I already know he
really likes me though, Nat. We're going out tomorrow evening, the only
night in the next 4 weeks we don't have a show or a signing, or a shoot
or something." Natalie's mouth dropped. "HE ALREADY ASKED
YOU?" Mia nodded. "Yeah, why?" "Grrrrr."
"What?" "Just, grrrrrr." She said, concentrating on
something else.
Chapter 4
Mia looked at her friend oddly, and heard Jacob telling the girls that
it was there turn for soundcheck. "C'mon Nat." Natalie jumped
up, and walked towards the stage. They broke into an acapella version of
"Little Dreamer" Little, little dreamer/Come and take me
away/Little, little dreamer/You make a new dream everyday/Little, little
dreamer/Come and take me away/Little, little dream/You always make my
day.... They continued on, and Ashley walked over towards Jacob.
"So, did you talk to her?" Jacob watched her, his eyes
fixtated on her. "Yeah, and honestly Ash? I feel better, but I
didn't want to do it. I always wanted Mia to be mine..." He said,
looking down. "But she likes Dan, and Dan likes her. I just need to
step outta the way." Ashley put a comferting arm around Jacob's
shoulder and looked at his friend. "Don't do this to yourself Jake,
and don't do this to Janie. She doesn't deserve it." "Ash,
Janie is Mia's old best friend. How fair is that, huh?" Ashley
stepped back, and looked straight at Jacob. "You're dating your
ex-girlfriend's OLD best friend? Man, I hope Mia doesn't get mad at
you." "She won't. She didn't. She already knows." He
said, watching as Dan chased her around the stage. "She already
knows a lot."
Ashley watched his friend walk away, defeated. Mia looked over at
Ashley, worried. Ashley shook his head, and raised his shoulders. Mia
jumped off the stage, and walked quickly after Jacob. "Jake!
Jakkkeeee." Jacob turned around, and looked at her, immediatly
forcing his eyes downward. He sighed deeply, knowing she'd jump into the
we're friends, Jake, you can tell me anything speech. "Jake, I know
somethings wrong." She said, trying to see his eyes. "Could
you tell me what it is, please?" Jacob looked up at her, confused.
"What's wrong, Mia? You are...you are." He said, turning to
walk away again. She sighed, "Jake, you can't keep doing this to
me. You can't keep avoiding me! I didn't do anything this time..."
She said, feeling a tear slip down her cheek. Dan walked up behind her,
and encircled his arms around her waist. Mia watched as Jacob walked
away, and tried to smile at Dan. "C'mon, let's go do something..fun."
Dan smiled down at her, and walked away with her.
Jacob walked into his dressing room, and was surprised by what he saw.
Janie was sitting on the couch, grinning from ear to ear.
"JAKE!" She said, jumping up to hug him. Jacob faked a smile,
and hugged her for a few minutes. "Janie, you're early." He
said, confused. He already had enough to think about, this just added to
things. "I know, but I had some time off, and I just couldn't wait
to see you." She said, kissing his cheek. He nodded, and smiled.
"That's great Janie..." He said, leaning down to kiss her.
There was a knock on the door, and Mia walked in. "Jake, I think we
should...oh...Janie. Hi." She said, unsure of what to do know.
Janie looked at Mia oddly. "MIA?!" She yelled, happily. Mia
just nodded, not wanting to have to talk to this girl. "Oh god
girl! What are you doing here?" "I'm in Mystic...the opening
act." "Oh." She said, looking from her to Jacob. Jacob
had a look on his face that said, "Oh no." Janie nodded,
"What, are we being bitter still, Mia?" Mia shrugged.
"No. Maybe you should ask your boyfriend if he's fully in your
relationship though." She said, frustrated, and slammed the door.
Janie turned to Jacob, and glared. "What is she talking about
Jacob?" Jacob just shrugged. "I don't know Janie. C'mon, be
happy. I am. I'm happy to see you." "Whatever, Jacob."
She said, walking out of the room. Jacob flung himself back onto the
couch and sighed. "Why is this happening?" Dan walked into the
room at that point in time. "Jake?" Jacob looked up at him.
"Oh god, please tell me that you aren't here to yell at me about
Mia." Dan shook his head yes. "For a change, you're doing the
wrong thing Jake. I like her, yeah...but she loves you. She wouldn't
even deny it to me." Jacob felt his stomach do a few flips and he
looked up at Dan. "You mean....you guys aren't?" Dan smiled,
and shook his head no. "She told me she couldn't do that to you,
but she knew she was in for a great friendship with me. That's what we
have, a great friendship Jake. Now go get your girl, please. Oh, and why
is Janie here?" Jacob shook his head, "Maybe after this,
she'll leave soon."
Chapter 5
Natalie smiled as Ashley strutted over to her. "Hey
Natalie..." He said, somewhat nervous. "Hey Ashley..."
She said, staring at her thumbs. "Would you want to join me for
lunch, right now?" Natalie looked up and smiled at Ashley. "Of
course I would." He offered her a hand just as they saw Mia walk
out on to the stage, and burst into tears. Through her tears, she
started doing the choregraphy to "This Is Mystic." She was
wiping her tears away, and dancing them out. "Dance, just dance
Mia. These people are not worth the tears, just dance." She said,
stomping one last time, and then falling to the floor. Ashley and
Natalie watched there friend break down from a distance. When she
starting hitting the stage, they knew something was definitely wrong.
"MIA?" Natalie yelled, running towards the stage. Ashley was
quick on her heels. Natalie sat in front of her friend, and ran a hand
over her head. "Mia, it's okay...you're gonna be fine." Mia
sat straight up, and looked at them. "It's not gonna be
alright." She said, wiping her tears away. "Tell me what
happened." Natalie said.
"Him...I...him! God, I hate some people so much. That Janie, what a
bitch." She said, tears streaming down her cheeks. "She called
me bitter, I was never bitter. I love him, Natalie. I love Jacob
Underwood, but I can't have him. No, no...that whore bag gets him. I've
loved him since I hurt him, and have I ever told him that? No. I
couldn't, Janie stepped into the picture suddenly. God...I love
him." She said, sobbing. Ashley tapped Natalie's shoulder, and
pointed to the sides of the stage where Jacob was standing. The two
silently got up, and walked away. Jacob walked over to Mia, and wrapped
her in her arms. "God Natalie...why me?" She said, putting her
head again his shoulders. "I love you too, Mia..." He said,
hugging her tightly. She looked up at him, stunned. "Jake?"
She said jumping up. He smiled at her and stood up also.
"Mia?" She stopped, and ran a hand through her hair looking
confused. "Aren't you supposed to be with...Janie?" He shook
his head no. "I'm supposed to be with you, Mia. I've been with
you...for too long and now I can make it a reality not a dream."
Tears flooded Mia's cheek, as she embraced Jacob.
He pulled back and looked at her, "Dan told me." She smiled at
Dan who was standing in the side of the stage, looking on. She mouthed
thanks, as Jacob hugged her again. This time, Mia pushed back and looked
him in the eyes. "Why is Janie shooting bullets at me with her eyes
over there, Jake?" Jacob looked over at Janie, and saw the look on
her face. "I'll be right back." He said, scurring off. Dan
walked out onto the stage, and took Mia's hands, spinning her around.
"So, you feel like a princess?" She smiled, and nodded.
"Dan?" He looked at her, oddly. "I'm sorry this didn't
happen, you're a really great guy. I do like you a lot." Dan
shrugged it off, "It's not an issue." He looked over at Jacob,
and back at Mia. "I couldn't have given you what Jacob will give
you anyway. The boy loves you, always have. You're his territory
Mia." She laughed a little, and watched as Janie blew up. Just as
she started to yell, Jacob walked away. As he stepped onto the stage, he
picked Mia up, and spun her around quickly. "I love you, Mia."
Mia smiled brightly, "I love you too, Jake."
