| "Tell Us That Joke Again (that one where you loved us)" October 31 2003 1.Tell Us that Joke Again...pt.1 2.Go On Your Way 3.Masturbation Song** 4.Tell Us That Joke Again...pt.2 **Later entitled "Liquid Pride", the first version of this song was recoded by Josh's previous project "Dead Hooker", a two man project which was scheduled to open for Rasputina but due to miscommunication between the venue and the booking agency, Little Joe Gould (now Murder By Death) got the slot. The first recording of the song is lost in an attic on an unmarked tape. Released at the first show ever, this demo was recorded by Derty and Josh in June of 2003 in a spare bedroom in his house located in a heavily student occupied area as he was attending IU at the time. The versions are calmer and minimal. We set out to record a slow sexy sleep album and planned to have sit down shows with candle-lit tables. We soon grew bored with the down tempo swing of things and moved on to try writing heavier, lowder choruses and hooks for these slow doomy, break-up anthemy, ambient songs. It's the closest thing to a "theme album" we've done. Jimmy and Derty had previously been in a band called The Dot Commies. They were preparing for a second show ever when the vocalist was sent to re-hab. Jimmy asked me(Josh) to fill in for her for the show which was to be held in a week. The show went as planned, the band went their seperate ways for the summer, and Derty & I were the only two left in Bloomington. Itching to make music, and depressed about the fall of the Commies, we recorded the "Tell us that joke again" ep along with 4 or 5 tracks which never made it to the public including a cover of a Dot Commies song. When he returned to Bloomington, Jimmy quickly fell into place as the drummer for the project which was soon to be named Otis. Former bassist, Mike, soon followed. The CD came in blank peper sleeves with circular "windows" on the front, was sold for an outragous $4 and is currently out of print. |
