WELCOME TO ROMANIA

Romania lies in the Southeastern Europe. Its name means the land of the Romans,
because it was part of the Roman Empire during ancient times. Its capital is
Bucharest.
Romania is almost evenly divided among hills, mountains and plains. From the
Carpathians to the Black Sea and the wild Danube Delta, the picturesque relief,
the diversity of vegetation and fauna attract tourists all through the year.
The Romanian Folk Art and the hospitality of the peasant houses which offer
accomodation are unforgettable.
For those taking an interest in history, the Samizegetusa sanctuary speaks about
the local Geto- Dacian population, the vestiges from Histria speak about the
Greek occcupation 2,500 years ago, and the ruins of the Bridge built between
103-105 by Emperor Trajan at Turnu-Severin, across the Danube, speak about the
genius of Roman builders. The Romanian Middle Ages are illustrated by the fortified
cities( Sighisoara-the town where Dracula was born) ) and the Northeastern chain
of monasteries which combine Byzantine and Central-European elements.
Alpine climbers and spelaeologists ( there are 11,000 caves in Romania ), passionate
hunters and fishermen, lovers of nautical or winter sports, all can see their
dream come true on Romanian land. Among the 140 thermal spas, Baile Herculane
and Geoagiu date from the times of Roman Dacia.
Unique in Romania and in Europe is the" Merry Cemetery" in Sapanta
in Maramures region, where the Romanian specific sense of humour is illustrated
by the multicoloured crosses with humourous epitaphs which speak about the habits
or faults of the deceased.
