THE PURPOSE OF THIS WEBSITE Why a UNION? and why DEMOCRATIC?

A UNION must first and foremost be of use to its members. It does this by organising the diverse ideas and thoughts of its members into ONE VOICE. With this ONE VOICE the UNION speaks on behalf of all its members.

Is The ONE VOICE to represent One Leader, The Executive, A Small Group of Active Members or the General Membership?

DEMOCRATIC is the means of finding and leading this ONE VOICE.

While any Organization will have a President and diverse Groups of Active Members who will use their influence; they must in a DEMOCRATIC Institution follow a Constitution and Bylaws which allow the General Membership to be heard and abided by.

OSSTF allows individual Supply Teachers to speak with ONE VOICE:
a] to negotiate a contract with our Employer
b] to maintain rights under this contract
c] to be heard by Governments, College of Teachers etc.
d] to present our particular concerns to other groups within OSSTF

The development of this ONE VOICE and the political power that it provides the leadership are founded in:

a] Constitution and By-Laws
b] Open and Accessible Advisory Committees
c] Open and minuted meetings of the Executive
d] a ?cabinet system? for the Executive wherein responsibility is divided and allows change through Elections.

This will allow us to have a strong ONE VOICE both within the Federation and facing those who would manipulate us, outside the Federation.
