A narrow strip of land running along the eastern bank of the Pettaquamscutt River to the shore of the Bay, Narragansett was incorporated as a town in 1901.

The ocean defines Narragansett. Fourteen miles long and a mile wide, the town is virtually two peninsulas almost completely surrounded by ocean, river, and salt marshes. You could get tipsy on the atmosphere, full as it is of saltwater smells, sounds of the sea, and sun-jeweled waves.
