Game Summary

Lowell - Cubs took one on the chin as they lost to the Pirates 17-4 at a rain soaked Shedd Park.

Chuck Trafton (2-2) took the loss as sloppy defense by the Cubs led to 11 Pirate runs in Trafton's four innings, only six earned.

On of the few Cub bright spots was Jerry Kohl making a successful return to the mound to pitch three scoreless innings of one-hit ball.  Included in the Kohl's performance was a nice catch of a line drive and doubling off the runner at first.

Steve Johanson contributed two hits and two RBI while Scott Van Winkle also hat two hits and an RBI.

The Cubs head into the Fourth of July break against the Red Sox next Sunday at Chelmsford High School.
