Game Summary

Lowell - The Cubs dropped to 2-3 on the season as the Twins scored a 5-2 victory at Hadley Field.

In a well played game, Tom Knox (1-1) took the loss.  The Twins won on the sharp pitching of Barry Foster (2-0) as Foster struck out 17 Cubs in only 7 innings of work.

Knox helped himself with an RBI triple in the fourth to bring the Cubs within 3-2, but the Cubs could score no more as the Twins pitching won out.  Frank Cossette scored the first Cubs run on a single by Jack Sayers.

Jack Muse and Knox led the Cubs with two hits apiece.

Ricky Greenhalge and Jason LeFebrve led a strong defensive game by making bookend sliding catches in center and left in the second inning.  Jerry Kohl pitched strong in relief allowing only an unearned run in three innings.  Duffy Thomas mopped up in the ninth.

The Cubs head in to the Memorial Day break looking good on the mound and in the field, but reeling at the plate.  The Cubs rank third in the NL (fifth overall) in runs allowed, but also rank seventh in the NL in runs scored (tied for 11th overall).  The Cubs will look to right their offensive woes on Sunday, June 2 at Dracut High School against the Braves.

Chuck Trafton will take his 1-1 record to the hill.  Jack Muse will look to keep his team-leading .600 average in tact.
