All right, to start me off, Anime rocks! I mean, why else would I write something
about it? Anyway, I love anime. Seriously, whenever I'm not skating, playing guitar,
or wasting my time with video games (which by the way rot your brains out kids), I'm
watching anime. But enough about me, more about the Anime.
My topic this time (I say that as if I'll ever write more or if "Karen" will put
another one on her website) is: what is up with nudity in Anime movies? Ok yeah, as a
completely heterosexual fourteen-year-old male (who is taken, sorry for all you ladies out
there) seeing a naked girl or woman, animated or not, is pretty cool. However, is it really
necessary?
In some movies, like "Akira" (which one of the owners of this high-class website has
yet to see, through no fault of her own I might add) the nudity is kind of explained....
kind of. For those of you who haven't seen it (cough, cough, Karen) I'll explain the nudity
scene.
Ok, there is this one dude: Tetsuo, he's your run-of-the-mill loser. He's got no
muscles, no charisma, and gets picked on a lot. Well, he and this other guy, Kaneda, are in
a motorcycle gang. One day at school Tetsuo decides to take Kaneda's awesome motorbike out
for a spin (even though he's already been told not to). So he, his girlfriend, and some
other not-important characters eventually run into another biker gang. Tetsuo, being the
shrimp that he is, gets the snot beaten out of him. Ok, ok, here it comes: nudity!
The other biker gang (the bad guys) rip off Tetsuo's girl's shirt. Yeah.... ok, maybe
I'm missing something, but is showing a thirteen-year-old's chest really that important to
the plot? Ok I would give you a blow-by-blow preview of Akira, but I'm already off subject
enough.
All right. Now you make your own decision on that one, but i don't think having that
nudity was at all related to the rest of the movie. Another example of pointless nudity is
the movie "Ghost in Shell." There is a cyber-bionic human (basically an android) who is
wearing a cloaking device. For all you guys reading this who have no idea what a cloaking
device is (what's wrong with you?) it makes people invisible. However, the only way she can
use this cloaking device is if she's nude. Now the first thing that went through my mind
was "Cool!" But then when analyzing the whole plot thing, I found it made no sense at all.
Ok, I have been told by countless reviewers that I need a conclusion to this piece of
crap column. Well here it is. Throughout the history of Anime there has been a whole butt
load of random and pointless nudity. And again I'll ask: Why?? Is it part of Japanese
culture to throw in some nudity? Or are all Japanese artists just majorly horny? No offense,
you guys are cool. Or is it just to appeal to teenage guys like me? Because it's working...
