Ok, before my fellow Otakus kill me: I am not upset by the show. I still believe Gundam Wing to be a brilliantly inspired show. But I do have something to rant about, and I figured, why not make it public? If Lozerboy can post his innermost struggles, well, gosh-golly-darn it, I own part of this website, I should be able to rant too.

Picture this: You log on, type "Gundam Wing" into your search engine. You open up your typical GW fansite and are shown pretty pictures of Gundams in flight. Almost without fail, there are icons you can click on to take you to character profiles. Here's the weirdness. The pilots will be listed as between the heights of 5'1" and 5'8", with weights in the 90's. Um, yeah, these would be the boys that got taped to the wall in gym class. For 17-year-old boys, that's pretty tiny! (Especially the weights- my 5'8" friends are at least 130 lbs.) I mean, maybe guys are that little in Japan, but Duo's supposed to be American, Quatre is supposed to be European/Arab... you get my drift. So why are they so little? And how do you tell?? Do I need to watch the show again? Cause I don't remember the Gundam pilots going to doctors offices and getting weighed and measured, but that could be my bad memory.

Moving on. The fansite of your choice will probably have a category for eye color and hair color. What in the holy hand grenade is Persian Blue? Hiro's eyes are always listed as persian blue. If someone could please send me a sample of "Persian Blue", like a paint chip or something, I would be much obliged. I'm sure such a color exists, but really! How often do you use it to describe eye color? What person, when asked their eye color, replies, "Persian blue. Not straight blue, mind you." And since WHEN has Duo had "honey brown" hair? Honey brown implies a very light, golden brown with gold or very light amber highlights. His hair is brown, people.

My very last comment is about "Origins". Every site will tell you that Hiro (or Heero) is Japanese. Duo is American. Trowa is.... something... Quatre is Arab, and Wufei is Chinese. All I have to say is that Hiro is a really pale, Caucasian-eyed Japanese man, and Quatre's origin is a bit misleading. It is true that there are large numbers of very pale people in Arab countries. They are not natives. (To be as pale as Quatre is, with blonde hair and all, his mother and father would have had to have been European as would his grandparents. If there's any Arab blood in him, it's very little and very ressessive. Ok, I'm done being nit-picky. But still.) All you Gundam Wing fansites, you need to whip yourselves into shape. I'll be checking back soon to monitor your progress. That's right, you can start shakin in your little spaceboots now.
