Excuse me...Who are you?

Perfect Blue is perhaps one of the most chilling and disturbing anime movies I have seen. Its offers such terrifying scenes that I was plaqued with memories long after the night I had watched it, wide-eyed, too scared to turn off the TV. I had asked my friends what they thought of it, and I got all sorts of responses. "It was so awesome!" to "Geez, that was so scary! God!" "Um, I turned it off after 20 minutes..." But the final verdict is that Perfect Blue is absolutely terrifying.

A young girl, Mima, is part of a top pop trio, called CHAM. As Mima yearns to become an actress and to stop singing, she is met by the scorn of all her former fans...who love her too much. Is she being stalked? As Mima goes online, she finds web sites telling every secret of her life, and strange things begin to happen. Who is doing these things? Is she going crazy? What is happening to her as she spirals into her own morbid hallucinations?

The suspense was awful in some parts, and though you desperately wanted to stop watching, you couldn't tear your eyes away. Perhaps the worst and most disturbing scene was when Mima was playing the part of a rapee in a TV show...its something to fast forward through.

The animation was sleek, and the dialogue was perfectly honed for this movie, as the storyline was deep and thought-provoking. The musical score was also fabulous. I loved the theme song, Ai no Tenshi and Mima Theme-which were "sung" by Cham, and oddly upbeat and happy-that I downloaded it right away.

Watch for the unique plot twists and horrifying ending...good luck, and turn the lights down!
