Ghost in the Shell

Rated: Non Rated (N, V, AL, AC)

Running Time: 120 Minutes

Genre: Sci-fi, Mecha

Recommendation 4/5

Ghost in the Shell is yet another triumph for Manga Artists. This is a very sci-fi flick, with human brains inside the bodies of cyborgs, who are programmed to become indestructible-well, almost-defenders of the city, cops.

My good friend Mike first introduced me to this movie, and I love him for that. The story revolves around a mysterious figure called the Puppet Master, who is so adept at hacking he can delve into the minds of his victims. Motoko, the cyborg heroine, has to pursue him, and there is a barrage of things she must do first.

Ghost in the Shell is visually amazing. The first opening scenes reveal a naked woman being implanted inside a chamber full of liquid...alright, it sounds strange, but its...er..interesting. ^_^ Then there are the cyborg scenes, which are pretty sleek as well.

I loved the soundtrack- the movie theme is this eerie, New Age, intrumental/techno thingie, with ghostly strains of voices interimingled with bells and gongs. It fit the mood just right.

The one and only drawback about Ghost in the Shell was the sorta complicated storyline. Don't get me wrong, its a tight-knit, breathless plot, but you have to pay close attention to the details, or you'll be scratching your head in puzzlement.
