Tony and Todd first met in 1989 when Todd auditioned for the band "New England" - a gothic rock style band with other members Richard Halman and Mike Hannaford. New England were well received in and around the Frome area but due to circumstances blah blah blah split around 1991. The band reformed sometime in 1993 as "Deadlock" and changed their musical style to heavey rock. This band also split after about a year of gigging. Tony then joined "Debbie Goes to Dallas" while todd joined Melksham band "Exit" and then Warminster band "The Demon Barbers". These bands eventually split as they all do and niether played their instruments for about 4 years. Then one day while stuck in a traffic jam heading to the M4 from Bath tony and todd met up again. This was the humble beginnings of the Dogs Pencil. Our first practice was around june 2000 with another guitarist Darren Searle (Tonys brother in law) who had already met Todd some years earlier when he came to buy some Michael Jackson records! Soon after came Darren Field to audition bass. He and Darren S worked together some years ago in a cheese factory. Darren F has gigged previosly with other bands - Most notably a covers band called 'Beats Working'. While away in Colchester he played Bass with an origionals Indie band called 'Soapy'. He also plays rythem guitar with a cheesy 60's outfit called 'Route66'. |
| A LONG TIME AGO IIN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY, A YOUNG EARTHLING CALLED TODD PICKED UP AN UNUSUAL LOOKING PIECE OF TIMBER WHICH HAD SEVERAL PIECES OF WIRE HANGING FROM IT.. THE EARTH CREATURES CALLED THIS AN INSTRUMENT. TODD DECIDED TO STRIKE A FEW NOTES AND BECAME A KICK ASS GUITARIST WHO COULD SHAKE YOUR FOUNDATIONS AND CURL YOUR NAILS. BY LUCK, OR WAS IT BAD LUCK,TODD HEARD OF A SKIN BEATER CALLED SEVS, BOY COULD THIS ANIMAL MAKE SOME NOISE, HE'S GOT MORE RYTHEM THAN WILL SMITH ON ACID! AFTER WHAT SEEMED TO BE ANOTHER MILLENIUM, HARMONYS BECAME POSSIBLE BY OPENING THIER MOUTHS AND MUMBLING AT EACH OTHER, THE SOUND OF ANGELS ON SPEED COMES TO MIND, BUT IT WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO SATISFY THESE TINY LITTLE EGO'S.FROM ANOTHER PLANET (HONEST!), A BLOND ALIEN ARRIVED WITH A DIFFERENT SOUND ALTOGETHER A DEEP RYTHmCHUGGING ALONG GAVE THIS SECOND GUITARIST A "NO MESSING ABOUT" SOUND THAT FILLED EVEN THE MOST SMALLEST OF VENUES. GOD IT HURT YOUR EARS. YES DAR IS A LEGEND ON EARTH!THROUGH THE CORRIDORS OF SPACE, THEIR NOISE TRAVELLED UNTIL IT REVERBERATED IN THE EARS OF A MAN WITH BUT 4 STRINGS. HE WAS DRAWN TO THEM AS IF UNDER HYPNOSIS. SOON DAR2 BECAME THE 4TH MEMBER 2 JOIN OUR ADVENTURES AND BREAK SOME NEW BOUNDARIES IN THE MAKING OF........... NOISE. THE FORCE IS WITH US |
