THE NAME GAME--PART I (THE CONTENDORS)
By Cindy Cryder

Its true.  I know a lot of people with the same name and often their traits kind of meld together in my brain.    Since you are all now desperately wondering what associations your name has, I will tell you.  But only some of you.  This time.  If this newsletter has a next time I will tell more of you.  This first group includes the people who just cant break away from my histories with other similar-named people.  So here we go...
On my first day of first grade at a new school, Samantha was the first person to talk to me.  She had white and pink sparkly Barbie shoes and I wanted to be just like herexcept maybe with My Little Pony shoes instead just to establish myself as an individual.  While I doubt we will see Sam V. wearing sparkly Barbie shoes any time soon, I will keep my fingers crossed.
The name Zach brings up another elementary school memory of a classmate named Zack.   Even though this Zack spelled his name with a k, people called him Zatch as if he 1) spelled his name with an h instead of a k and 2) preferred that they pronounce it incorrectly.  As annoying as all of this was, I still think Zatch whenever I meet anyone named Zach, Zack. etc  I need to work on that.

The 96th and 97th Classes of SPHINX on Linking Day
CHEER ETIQUETTE
Anonymous

It has recently been brought to our attention that some active links have different opinions on when it is appropriate or not to perform the SPHINX Drinks! Cheer.  Here are a few guidelines to remember when youre thinking about screaming til your throat goes dry before chugging a sizable amount of an alcoholic (or not) beverage:

1 person: Why are you drinking by yourself?!  There are 23 other people that would come out at the drop of a hat to help you with this situation.  The whole point of this is bonding!

2 people: This just doesnt work.  While 2 is better than 1, its not that much better.  If I saw 2 people on the street saying some cheer I would think they were crazy.  Now, what others think of you should not matter, but the Cheer itself needs to be upheld with the utmost dignity.  Because 2 people shouting the Cheer would look weird, you would be disgracing the Cheer, and therefore you cannot do it with only 2 people.  Period.

3-5 people: This combination has been tried with varying degrees of success, mostly bad.  3 people is pretty much the same as 2, so just dont do it.  4, still not quite enough.  5 people is starting to get up there, but its still pushing that lower limit.  The official recommendation is to not do the Cheer with this few people.  However, if all of you are very confident that you can yell really loudly and represent the Cheer and SPHINX well, then depending on the situation and where you are, you can choose to do it.  If there are only 5 people, youd better be really loud!

6 people: Were gonna say that 6 is the minimum to perform the Cheer.  6 is 25% of a class, thats .  When you get up to 6, you can really start to do good things.  People will hear you and look at you in awe.  They will see that we are doing something sacred and will come to revere the Cheer.  6 is the magic number.
