Enough

John 6:11-13  - "Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.  When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, 'Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.'  So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.”

A lady down the road had just seen her husband go to the Lord as was facing a financially tough time.  Seemed like her husband had built up some debt and had left her and her two sons with a heavy load to handle.  It was quite a sight to see as she, left with nothing left than her home, her sons, and a small jar of oil decided that their last option was to implore to her husbands companions, a group of prophets.

Instead of providing her with some money or going to ask the creditors for more time, one prophet told her to lock herself in the house drawing all the shades shut!  And what’s even stranger is that her boys came over the other day to ask for empty jars and cups.  But there had to be a miracle, because she set up shop just yesterday, selling jars and jars of oil to anyone who was in sight.  And wow, were there a lot of oil for sale!  Well, it seems like she’s been able to pay off the creditors and have a nice profit to live on now.  Looks like God does provide for those in need.

The story of the Widow’s Oil and the prophet Elisha is one of the shining examples of just how much God can provide for us.  Often we feel as if we’ve run into a wall in life, where out tank has just reached empty, and everything has maxed out.  Whether it be really tough classes, that impossible project at work, or the draining hours put into your ministry, we feel that we are burned out.  It is during these times that we need to realize where our source of energy comes from.

David writes “I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from?  My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2).  Peter writes “If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 4:11).  Even Paul writes that it is “God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” (1 Timothy 6:17)

So when you feel drained and that every bit of energy is drained, look to the heavens and ask yourself “where does my help come from?”  Truly believe and have faith, just like the widow did, that God will provide.  And just like the oil overflowing from the jars and the bread overflowing the baskets, God will prove that all of Him is more than enough.

Rely upon Christ and relish in His supply, which is more awesome than anyone will ever know and more plentiful than anyone can ever perceive.

Song Lyrics:
All of You is more than enough for
All of me
For every thirst and every need
You satisfy me with Your love
And all I have in You is more than enough

You are my supply
My breath of life
And still more awesome than I know
You are my reward
Worth living for
And still more awesome than I know

You’re my sacrifice
Of greatest price
And still more awesome than I know
You’re the coming King
You are everything
And still more awesome than I know

More than all I want
More than all I need
You are more than enough for me
More than all I know
More than all I can see
You are more than enough
