Psalm 150:6 – “Let everything that
has breath praise the Lord.”
I’ve always enjoyed going to a
church where there’s a worship band. There’s
something about how the constant thump of beat of the
drums, the acoustic guitars singing, the amazing
background of the keyboard, and the sweet voices that
fill the air and entice a person’s soul to come
alive. Not that conservative churches don’t have
their own share of amazing worship, there’s something
about churches that have lively worship that helps a
person meet up with God.
Yet there’s a constant reminder we
have to be aware of – it’s easy to praise God, but it
takes a lot more to worship Him. I once heard this
excerpt from a sermon: “It’s easy to praise God.
Anyone can praise God. Lord, I thank You for my
shoes. I thank You for my clothes. I thank You for
my job, my friends, my family. But what does it mean
to worship God?”
Indeed, what does it mean to
worship God? John 4:23-24 says “Yet a time is coming
and has now come when the true worshipers will worship
the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind
of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and
his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”
Whole life worship is beyond
singing songs and feeling great about being at church
– it’s committing your entire life to God. It is
worshipping God and thanking Him for the very air you
breathe. It is knowing that the Holy Spirit lives in
you. It is continuously reading the Word to gain
knowledge, and from knowledge wisdom, and from wisdom,
power. It is a sense that without God, we are so poor
and helpless…but that with Him, we are empowered
beyond our abilities. So truly, let everything that
breathes take time to praise and worship the Creator
of all heaven and earth.
May we live, breathe, and worship
God with all of our heart and soul, forever and ever
more. Amen!
Song Lyrics:
This is the air I
breathe
This is the air I breathe
Your holy presence living in me
This is my daily bread
This is my daily bread
Your very Word spoken to me
And I’m desperate for You
And I’m lost without You
