(Nicole C. Mullen’s updated version of My Redeemer Lives)

Job 19:25 – “I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.”

During the constant fall of the Roman Empire, when the Western Empire fought with the Eastern Empire, Constantine battled for control of the empire and had fought his way into Italy.  Exhausted, hungry, and now outnumbered, Constantine faced a difficult task as his troops camped near Rome.

The story is picked up by British historians and the BBC and continued:

It was then that something strange happened. Eusebius - one of the Christian Church's early historians - relates the event in his Conversion of Constantine.

"...while he [Constantine] was thus praying with fervent entreaty, a most marvelous sign appeared to him from heaven, the account of which it might have been hard to believe had it been related by any other person.

"...about noon, when the day was already beginning to decline, he saw with his own eyes the trophy of a cross of light in the heavens, above the Sun, and bearing the inscription 'conquer by this'.

"At this sight he himself was struck with amazement, and his whole army also, which followed him on this expedition, and witnessed the miracle."

Spurred on by divine intervention, Constantine's army won the day and he gave homage to the God of the Christians whom he believed had helped him.

This was a time when Christianity was struggling. Support from the most powerful man in the empire allowed the emerging religious movement to flourish.

Even in the face of struggles and being executed in hordes by the Roman Empire, God still comes through in a big way.  So keep your eyes on the Cross, let your steps be steadfast, your heart guarded, and your soul prepared … our Redeemer lives and in the end He will emerge victorious.

Song Lyrics:
Who taught the sun where to stand in the morning?
Who told the ocean you can only come this far?
Who showed the moon where to hide 'til evening?
Whose words alone can catch a falling star?

Well I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer lives
All of creation testify
This life within me cries
I know my Redeemer lives

The very same God that spins things in orbit
He runs to the weary, the worn and the weak
And the same gentle hands that hold me when I'm broken
They conquered death to bring me victory

Now I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer lives
Let all creation testify
Let this life within me cry
I know my Redeemer, He lives

To take away my shame
And He lives forever, I'll proclaim
That the payment for my sin
Was the precious life He gave
But now He's alive and
There's an empty grave

Now I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer lives
Let all creation testify
Let this life within me cry
I know my Redeemer, He lives
